Major Update: New Maps, Bosses & the Ballista Tower!
New battlefields. Bigger threats. Time to rethink your defenses.
This major update brings two new maps, new boss waves, additional enemies, and the mighty Ballista tower to Dark Fantasy Tower Defense!
A new star completion system marks your progress toward defending each map, while enemy weaknesses add another layer to your strategy. Updated controls, expanded Encyclopedia entries, and new visual effects round out the update.
Two New Maps
- Moonstone Hollow: A new Intermediate map for your next defensive stand.
- Crystal Canyon: A challenging Expert map ready to put your strategies to the test.
New Boss Waves
Think your defenses can handle anything? Two new bosses would like a word.
- Wave 45: Spider Queen: The queen enters the battle, spreading her young across the battlefield. Be ready for company.
- Wave 65: Cacodaemon: A new flying threat swarms the skies. You might want to keep some ice handy…
Star Completion System & Wave 100 Completion Screen
Defend the lands. Earn your stars. Decide what comes next.
The new star completion system marks your progress with three milestones at waves 50, 75, and 100. Each starred wave spawns additional enemies, so prepare for a tougher fight!
Successfully defend through wave 100 and a new completion screen confirms that you have defended these lands and completed the map’s main 100 waves.
From there, choose to continue endlessly and see how far your defenses can hold, or return to the main menu to pick another map. Completing the main challenge is now clearly recognized, without putting an end to your run.
New Tower: Ballista
Make room for some serious firepower.
The Ballista is a heavy crossbow tower that occupies a 2x3 grid space. At level 7, choose between Bleeding Bolts or Chained Shots to shape its role in your defenses.
More Enemies Join the Battle
The bosses aren’t coming alone. Meet the latest additions to the enemy ranks:
- Loot Goblin
- Red Shield Kobolds
- Cloakers (flying)
- Spiderlings
Damage Types & Rebalance
Know your enemy. Build accordingly.
Enemies now have weaknesses to certain tower types and effects, giving you more reasons to mix up your defenses and plan your tower combinations.
Check the Encyclopedia for detailed enemy information, damage types, and status effects. Knowing what works against an incoming threat could make all the difference.
Visual Upgrades
- Construction dust effects now appear while building or upgrading towers.
- Larger poison bubbles bring a little more bubbling nastiness to the battlefield.
- A new gore system makes its battlefield debut.
- Castles now explode and crumble at the end of the game.
Controls, UI & Tutorial Improvements
- Added drag-and-drop controls for towers.
- RTS controls are now the default for new players. Prefer the alternative? Disable RTS controls at the top of the Settings menu.
- Added helper text below the commander in Kingdoms mode.
- Helper text now updates when you change your keybinds.
