Air Dominance Fighter is now available in Spanish, French, and German!
How to
Steam should automatically switch to your language of choice. To manually select it, right-click ADF in your library > Properties… > General > Language :
Translations include:
the graphical interface and briefings MFD buttons and labels some HUD indicators, e.g. during air refueling
Radio comms and cockpit effects are still in English for immersion, but fully subtitled .
Dev note: ADF was designed before Unicode was a thing, so it was quite a challenge to update the technology to support characters beyond the standard alphabet …
We also provide translated help files . The help received a major overhaul, in all languages, to restore its 1997 charm:
Other improvements over the 1997 translations include:
fixed weapon loadouts in briefings fixed overflowing text in medal windows converted German translation to modern German orthography
We are working on more translations and assets, but that’s not always trivial. Some manuals seem genuinely lost; in other cases it’s hard to track down the current rights holders.
Still, our German translation comes with fully digital copies (non-scanned) of the 1997 manual and key card:
For Modders
Good news for modders: All briefing files are now UTF-8-encoded. No more codepage hassles!
If you’d like to localize your mods:
Ship English files by default. If you don’t translate, your mods remain fully functional but display in English, regardless of the game language. Place translations into sub-directories called Spanish , French , German – e.g. MDL/ French /mymission.mdl . The localized builds will pick them up from there.
