Consequence 1.1 and Steam OS Support
Greetings Captains! Today marks the release of Consequence 1.1 ! This patch introduces some highly requested major features, a complete rework of resource gathering, deep AI improvements, easier gearing up, official steps toward Steam Deck support, as well as a new player bounty system and much, much more.
Without any more waffling, here are the patch notes:
Major Expansion Features
- SteamOS & Steam Deck Support: Fixed controller support and audio initialization on SteamOS, officially enabling support for the Steam Deck! I will be actively working on getting the game "Deck Verified" soon. (If you are using Proton hotfix, or any other compatibility settings, you should be good to remove them now)
- The Player Bounty System: Your actions have consequences, Captain. NPCs can now place bounties on your head, causing highly dangerous bounty hunters to track you down. I've also added compounding reputation losses for repeated infractions.
Controller & Gamepad Refinements
- Smart Highlighting: Gamepad mode now automatically highlights the first entity within three squares directly ahead of your ship.
- Navigation Fixes: Corrected D-pad navigation for the two-column right menu, and removed the SOS button from D-pad focus navigation (while preserving its actual controller action).
- Gamepad UI: Focused inventory, shipyard, and profile loadout items will now properly display their tooltips while playing in gamepad mode.
Gameplay, AI & Environment
- Advanced NPC AI: NPC ships will now regenerate shields per turn, just like the player. Additionally, if an NPC takes significant hull damage, they will attempt to retreat and navigate to the nearest friendly habitable planet or station to repair, if not in combat.
- Resource Gathering Rework: Completely overhauled how harvesting works to make it more fluid and RPG-driven. Mining, salvage, and siphoning now instantly roll a d20 + your Procurement stat against a node's resource-value DC.
- Above DC: 2 resources
- At/below DC: 1 resource
- Natural 20: 3 resources
- Natural 1: 0 resources, and the node is destroyed.
Fluid Harvesting: Removed the interaction menu for resource gathering to make the entire process significantly faster.
Signal Rework: Reverted Signals to their classic behavior. Instead of events happening to you directly, they now have a chance to spawn physically in the galaxy. You must actively seek them out to interact, making them far less disruptive to normal flight.
Exploration Loot: Added random cargo containers to galaxy generation, giving you more chances to discover loot without having to invest credits.
Economy & Balance
- Price Drops: Reduced the base value of all weapons and modules by 20% across the board.
- Ship Standardization: Normalized ship purchase costs across all tiers.
- Enemy Drops: Increased the chance that destroyed enemies will drop either a weapon from their active loadout or a newly generated module.
User Interface & Quality of Life
- Settings Overhaul: Reorganized the settings menu into three clean columns: Gameplay, Graphics, and Audio. Added an option to disable menu rotation for rotated menus.
- On-the-Fly Profile: Modified the Pilot Profile so you can now view your entire equipped loadout at a glance while in space. (You will still need to visit a shipyard to actually modify it).
- Docked Cargo Management: Added a "Cargo" button to the docking menu, allowing you to manage your inventory and craft items without needing to undock first.
- Tooltip & Text Polish: Contraband/illegal items are now color-coded with red names so they immediately stand out. Item tooltips now explicitly state their item type instead of a generic "Cargo" tag, and stars will display their actual classification rather than just saying "Sun."
- HUD Adjustments: Reordered the monitor controls on the right-hand display of the HUD. Also renamed the outdated "Disrupt" status effect to "Homing" to better reflect what it actually does.
Bug Fixes & System Failsafes
- Targeting Fix: Combat clicks will now accurately respect the nearest raycast hit after adjacent physical interactables, preventing nearby ships from "stealing" your selected target.
- Energy Refunds: Resource harvesting now performs a check for an available cargo slot and remaining node charges before consuming your ship's energy. If an extraction unexpectedly yields nothing, your energy is refunded.
- Scanner Refresh: The short-range scanner now refreshes immediately when a contract is completed, removing its marker instantly without forcing you to wait for the next turn.
- Docking Visuals: Fixed an issue where planet dock visuals wouldn't clear correctly when departing. The remembered planet target is now properly wiped so the background cannot reopen unexpectedly.
Plus a lot more little tweaks and fixes!
Please restart Steam or Verify your files to manually download the update, if it hasn't started already Some features may not be available until your next depth jump, as they take root in galaxy generation.
