"Are you going to work on ORION: Prelude forever??"
"Are you going to work on ORION: Prelude forever??"
No, absolutely not.
I've tried to be as clear as I can, through a number of updates and the FAQ, about what I'm doing with ORION: Prelude and the scope of it.
I have a clear vision of where I want to take this project, along with a specific set of goals and ideas I want to experiment with and implement.
[ Above & Beyond ]
In fact, I've been able to do things beyond my initial expectations, including some I didn't think would be possible. I'll be sharing more on those as development progresses.
These will be labeled as [ Above & Beyond ] articles; the first is already available: https://www.patreon.com/posts/orion-prelude-1-170086785
There will come a time when my attention needs to shift to other projects. When that time arrives, you'll be left with a better, more fun and more stable game that can carry forward for years to come.
I've been purposefully building systems, features and mechanics to expand your gameplay and enjoyment and I can't wait to hear what you think when it releases.
What is " DONE "?
The goals are simple:
- A better game across gameplay and feel.
- A more optimized game across polish and performance.
- An open development process worth following along with.
Being marked as "Complete" comes back to my main pillars that I started with:
- Foundation = FPS, TPS, Vehicles, Combat, AI. The stuff everything else sits on.
- Co-op = Large-Scale Action & Adventure.
- Systemic Control = Multiplayer, UI, AI, Combat, Pipeline. I needed to own the whole stack which means getting the project, files, backend and workflow into a state where fixes ship quickly.
Surprises yet to come...
There are certainly developments you're not aware of. I don't want to give too much away just yet...
What happens after?
Stepping away doesn't mean I am disappearing. Patches will still deploy for bugs that are reported and for quality of life now that the project files will be in a stable, long-term place.
Quality > Quantity
Much of this work is under the hood. Rebuilding foundations so everything built on top and around them holds up for years to come.
Thank YOU
To everyone who's stuck around, reported bugs, kept playing: thank you. ~ This version is being built with you in mind and I truly hope you enjoy it.
