Update 1.6.1, and everything the cottage gained since launch
Hello everyone,
Update 1.6.1 is live. Many of you joined in a language we only started announcing in recently, so this post opens with a short tour of everything the cottage has gained since launch, then the details of this update. Thank you to everyone who wrote in.
Since launch, in short
- Streak freezes. Missing a day no longer ends a run. You start with one freeze, earn another every seven days, and hold up to three.
- 28 languages. Every menu, rule sheet, hint and clue is translated. Pick yours in Settings.
- Play Together. A porch with five hot-seat games for two to four players, on one computer or over Remote Play Together: Chalk, Acorns, Fences, Pebbles and Warren. Gentle and sharp computer opponents, board sizes to choose, a running head-to-head record, best-of series, and matches you can put down and pick up later.
- Wheel, the fifteenth daily puzzle. A ring of letters and a small crossword. The words you find fill in the ones you have not, with clues in every language.
- The Trading Post. Spend what your puzzles earn on the yard and the cottage.
- Achievements, in the full game and the demo, counting everything you had already solved.
- Challenges and longer leaderboards. Send anyone the board you just solved with your time to beat, by code or through Steam. Weekly and all-time boards for every puzzle, global or friends only, and a Rivals record of who wins between you.
New in 1.6.1: challenge anyone
- The Challenge button on a leaderboard row now opens a picker of your own solved boards from the last 7 days, leaving out the board that player has already played. Challenging someone on a board they had already solved was a rematch on a known answer, so it is gone.
- Challenge anyone by their Steam friend code, straight from the Challenges screen. Their code is in Steam under Friends, then Add a Friend. No friend request needed.
- Rivals have a Challenge again button.
- A board already sent to a player shows as Sent and cannot go twice.
- Results travel back on their own, so you always learn who won.
Word lists re-screened
- The Verse and Wheel word lists were screened again for family-safe play. A small number of words no longer appear as answers, and the Wheel no longer accepts them as bonus words.
- Several dictionary hints were reworded.
- Every word and hint the game ships is now checked against our block list in the release tests before a build goes out.
Interface
- Disabled buttons keep a readable label instead of fading to near-white, so a locked puzzle or a greyed Challenge button still says what it is.
- The Challenges and Leaderboards pages use a smaller title on short windows, giving the list more room.
Demo
- The demo now covers your first 7 days. It opens with a short welcome that starts Weave on Easy, and the date line shows which demo day you are on. After the seventh day the daily cards lock; the backyard and Chalk stay open.
Unchanged
- Every board already played deals exactly as before. Archive replays, streaks and open challenge codes are unaffected.
- No gameplay, settings or balance changes.
If you spot anything in a puzzle that does not belong at a family table, tell us in the discussions. We would rather fix it the same day.
See you at the cottage.
