Seasons & Weather Update
Hey! This time the garden gets seasons and weather, and we worked through a long list of the bugs you sent us.
New:
Seasons. Every month is a season now: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Weather. Sunny days, clouds, rain, storms with lightning, snow, blizzards, fog, windy days, blossom in spring and falling leaves in autumn. If you play together, you all see the same sky. All of the season has their own effects on the world such as snow settling in the winter or rain makes rings on the lake or the thunder makes everything a bit darker. The almanac tells you each day's weather ahead of time. The day that gives extra fruit is now named after its weather: Rainy Day, Snowy Day, Storm or Blizzard. A Storm or a Blizzard gives +4 fruit per drop instead of +2, so the worst weather pays the most. Golden fruit finally looks golden. It shines on the grass and bursts into a pile of gold coins when you pick it up. Before, you could hardly tell you had found one. Casino: a slot machine can now spin up to five rows at once (F, or Y on a controller), and all the wins add up into one payout. Hold E (A on a controller) to keep spinning on its own. It stops on a jackpot, when your money runs out, or when you press E or walk away.
Changes:
The shop economy has been reworked. Most cards have more, smaller steps now, they go up in whole numbers, and every card shows what you have now and what the next purchase adds. The Backpack is now the only storage upgrade. The Harvest Crate and the Silo have left the shop, but any space you already bought with them stays. New in the shop: the Haul Rope. It adds shake power as a plain number, and it gets stronger every time it changes material. The start of the game is quicker: the combo ring is now one of the first skills you can buy, and the first Yield upgrades are much cheaper. Every new fruit you unlock now makes all your fruit worth 25% more. The later fruit and upgrades cost more than before, so the orchard lasts longer instead of running out halfway through. Your gardens carry over. When you load one, it moves onto the new prices by itself: everything you bought stays, and no upgrade gets weaker. You can now see Smart Bag working: the bag bar fills past its half line, and a second later it drains back into a coin that flies into your purse. Selling fruit one at a time no longer rounds the price down either. The Piggy Bank's morning interest now flies into your bag as coins, so you can see where it came from. Picking up a rainbow fruit no longer ends your combo ring, and while you are playing the ring, the rainbow fruit drops right into your hands. After each green hit on the combo ring, the needle now starts in the red with the next green just ahead of it, so a green can't vanish the moment it appears. During a frenzy, Branchy shakes the tree if he has learned how. If he hasn't, every fruit he picks up turns into coins. Golden Hour and the shooting stars are switched off for now. Their coins could land up in the tree, where nobody could reach them. We will bring them back once they work properly.
Fixes:
Branchy only picked up apples and a few other fruits. He now picks up every kind. Coins and fruit left on the ground could follow you into the next garden you opened. Fixed. Picking up a big pile of coins made the game stutter and could drown out other sounds, and late-game frenzies buried the garden in thousands of coins. All fixed. On a controller, the Chill and Clicker shake styles did not work, because pressing A to shake let go of the tree. A now grabs and shakes, B lets go. On a controller, the d-pad in the almanac could close it, open the workshop on top of it, or sell your whole bag. Holding A to buy in the workshop next to the mailbox could sell your bag too. Fixed. The shake hint over the tree could stay on the screen forever, and the hint for picking up fruit never showed up. Both fixed. End of day report: every fruit on the podium shows its picture now, the almanac strip no longer overlaps, and fruit names are translated. On ultrawide screens (21:9 and wider) the top of the screen was cut off. Fixed, and the edges of the garden are filled in so you don't see past the end of the world. On 4K screens the mouse cursor was tiny. It now grows with your screen. Text that did not fit or overlapped in some languages has been fixed across the menus.
Co-op:
The combo ring is now played on your own computer, so it no longer lags for guests. From inside the cabin you can now see your friends out in the garden. A guest's slot machine winnings no longer land before the reels stop.
Note: this update changes the network protocol, so you both need the current version to play together.
