New Event Ahoy! Previewing the High Seas of Tamriel

Scope out Season One’s upcoming High Seas of Tamriel event!

Get ready for a brand-new in-game event as Season One of The Elder Scrolls Online sets sail! The High Seas of Tamriel event kicks off on Wednesday, September 30, and will run until October 14. This event introduces a swashbuckling new experience for Tamriel’s mariners that gives them the opportunity to plunder the ocean’s depths.

Adventure Upon the Seas

“[With High Seas of Tamriel] the team wanted to deliver a new event that felt special, fun, and thematic from start to finish,” explains German Davila, one of ESO ’s Senior Content Designers. “Braving the seas aboard your embattled ship and then diving deep to explore the depths is a unique event experience.”

“High Seas of Tamriel is a love letter to all the incredible nautical stories and lore in the Elder Scrolls franchise,” says Michael Zenke, ESO ’s Lead Narrative Designer and Loremaster. “We’ve got ghost pirates, Sea Elf raiders, dark cults, Dwemer mysteries, and really angry crabs. We tried to cram everything we could think of into one fun package, with the idea of making the premise flexible enough to inspire future adventures on the high seas if people enjoy the experience.”

Help the ghost of the Baron-Captain

Introducing you and your crew to this new nautical experience is a special event NPC, the ghostly scallywag Baron-Captain Olsien Guy-Mard.

“Off the coast of Anvil, players meet Baron-Captain Olsien Guy-Mard*, a spectral captain who needs help recovering the Riotous Redress, his cherished ship, from the briny deep,” says Davila. “Players who complete this introductory quest can then sail aboard this ancient ship to brave the Abecean Sea.”

Venture Above & Below

After the Baron-Captain’s ship is seaworthy, you unlock a new daily quest that sends you on expeditions above and below the depths.

“Battling on the deck of the Riotous Redress involves traditional combat against new and dangerous foes, with the added challenge of repairing breaches from incoming cannon fire and dealing damage of your own with your ship's artillery,” explains Davila. “After which, players can explore the ocean’s floor, where they will need to maintain their protective bubble while facing the deep-sea dangers if they hope to survive.”

Defend the Riotous Redress

“With High Seas, we tried to take a new approach to the concept of ‘a daily.’ While the basic outline of the quest is the same every day, the battle with the Sea Elf pirates offers different challenges every time as the swashbuckling cultists try their very best to kill you and sink your ship,” explains Zenke. “The undersea map plays host to a pair of memorable boss fights, but between these boss arenas, there’s a large amount of explorable space. Treasures and lore abound across the Abecean Sea floor. We hope folks who jump into the event try a few different ways to play.”

High Seas, Deep Rewards

For those privateers who are in it for the loot (and what kind of swashbuckling captain isn’t?), this new event has no shortage of plunder.

“For the stylish corsair, the Abecean Sea Privateer outfit style makes its debut as both dropped rewards and wares at the Impresario during the event. Completing the intro quest also awards the Ostentatious Pirate Wig and Hat collectible, so players can look just like their new favorite nautical specter,” says Davila. “Additionally, reward boxes can award a new scroll that grants Skill XP for the Excavation and Scrying Skill Lines! Finally, the Suncleft Grotto Ornaug is available in three fragments earned via different event activities as well.”

Plunder new event rewards

“The rewards I’m most excited to talk about are brand-new furnishings and antiquities,” says Zenke. “If you enjoy decorating your house, a raft of new themed High Seas items are available from the reward box, boss drops, and undersea treasure chests. Some of these furnishings are granted via Antiquity leads, tying into our idea of digging up the undersea lore of the Abecean to claim your prizes. And for the very first time, we’re offering Antiquity leads that grant you furnishing recipes! Finding one of these rewards and successfully digging up the recipe allows you to make as many of the furnishing items as you want for you and your guildies!”
