Yondel Update 0.4.8 — Connected Worlds

Martal Games

Find a world, meet its players, and leave a history behind. Update 0.4.8 rebuilds the co-op screen around a live public-session browser, brings Yondel to three languages, opens the new Swamp biome, and gives every character a permanent History. It also delivers a major performance pass and fixes several long-standing multiplayer and menu problems. Co-op compatibility: Update 0.4.8 uses protocol 42. The game checks both the release version and protocol, so 0.4.7 clients cannot join 0.4.8 sessions. Everyone in a group must update first.

New

  • Live multiplayer session browser — the co-op screen now lists public sessions with their flag, title, player count, in-game day, chat language, and lock status. Host Game now sits in the browser header.
  • Full host setup — name your session, choose Open or Locked access with a password, allow 2–8 players, and select its chat language. Passwords are sent only in the join request and are never exposed in lobby metadata.
  • Three complete languages — the UI, all 185 items, categories, and tooltips are now available in English, 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese), and Русский. Change language from Options.
  • Swamps — explore a new wetland biome with slow-churning murk, algae shorelines, drifting duckweed, and gas bubbles that rise and burst. Existing worlds can discover swamps in newly generated chunks.
  • Water and swamp wading — walking through shallow water now leaves ripples behind you in both swamps and open water.
  • Character History — a permanent History page in the pause menu records kills by species, deaths by cause, days survived, time played, and Journey rank. The bestiary gallery fills with colour as you defeat each species.
  • Progress that travels home — kills earned while playing in a friend's world are also recorded in the character's own bound world.
  • Expressive eyes — characters narrow their eyes when landing a hit and flinch wide-eyed when taking damage. Other players can see these reactions in co-op.
  • Steam identity in co-op — the players panel now displays each player's Steam persona name and avatar beside their in-game character. Peer IDs remain the actual network identity.

Improved

  • Menus now scale consistently — 720p, 1440p, and 4K receive a uniformly scaled version of the 1080p layout, keeping buttons, text, and kit artwork in sync.
  • Much faster startup — procedural water and swamp sheets now use bulk uploads and are cached to disk, so only the first launch pays the generation cost.
  • Large performance pass — stronger per-frame caching and culling for chunks, buildings, dropped items, and mobs; fewer allocations; a better-prepared lighting pass; and frame-rate-independent camera follow. Walking no longer force-loads chunks on the render thread.

Under the Hood

  • Added cross-play multiplayer: now Yondel mobile players will be able to connect to PC steam players.
  • Co-op wire protocol advanced from 33 to 42, including session passwords, synced emotions, participation-based kill credit, and platform profiles.

Fixed

  • Fixed co-op joins frequently arriving with missing walls and buildings. The host now retries the complete join snapshot until it is delivered.
  • Fixed guests joining inside a bath, WC, or bed footprint when the host was using it, leaving them hidden and stuck.
  • Fixed worlds running the day/night cycle around five times too fast and permanently saving that speed. Affected worlds sanitize the value and heal themselves on the next save.
  • Fixed the menu background flashing while switching between menu screens.
  • Fixed resolution changes with an open dialog freezing menu entrance animations and leaving parts of the UI invisible.

Thank you for playing Yondel and for continuing to send detailed bug reports. See you in the swamp!
