What to consider
Summarized by AIFar Cry 5 fans like a big open world, a loud arsenal and a villain worth taking down, with a friend along if possible. Two other Far Cry games are here, 4 and 6, with Left 4 Dead 2 and Sker Ritual covering co-op horror and Homefront: The Revolution setting a fight inside an occupied America.
1. Far Cry® 6
Best for Far Cry fans who want another open-world uprising with inventive weapons.
147 votes
Taking down Castillo's regime on the island nation of Yara keeps the open-world shooter at heart. Improvised weapons such as missile backpacks, and animal companions that distract or scout, give fights a scrappy streak. A natural next stop after Hope County for fans of the fight-the-regime setup.
Standout features
- Improvised weapons
- Animal companions
- Guerrilla combat
Kyrat is the setting, an open world described as vertical and varied, from lush forests to snow-capped peaks. Weapons range from silent crossbows to rocket launchers, so stealth and explosive approaches are both open, much like Far Cry 5's choice between takedowns and firepower. It also carries the co-op tag.
Standout features
- Vertical Kyrat open world
- Stealth or explosive options
- Crossbows to rocket launchers
3. Homefront®: The Revolution
Best for open-world shooter fans who want a grim occupation story.
31 votes
Four years into a brutal military occupation, Philadelphia has become a ghetto watched by surveillance drones and armored patrols, which gives the story a grim backdrop. Open-world shooting with single-player and co-op both available makes it a fit if Far Cry 5's tale of locals versus an oppressor appealed.
Standout features
- Occupied Philadelphia
- Surveillance drones
- Co-op and singleplayer
Waves replace the open map here: it is a round-based horror horde shooter on Sker Island, played solo or with up to four players online. Miracle powers and boss fights break up the shooting. For Far Cry 5 players who most enjoy having friends alongside, it concentrates the co-op.
Standout features
- Round-based horde fights
- God-like Miracle powers
- Solo or four players
You and your friends fight through five campaigns across the Deep South, from Savannah to New Orleans, as one of four survivors in a co-op action horror shooter. Zombies replace the cultists in a game that is entirely about playing together.
Standout features
- Five Deep South campaigns
- Four survivors
- Co-op horror shooter
