6. Call of Duty: World at War
Call of Duty is back, redefining war like you've never experienced…
20 games, the closest and most played first.
Left 4 Dead 2 fans are usually after a team of friends shooting through zombie hordes. Several picks stay close to that: the original Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor and World War Z. Space Hulk: Deathwing swaps zombies for Warhammer 40,000 monsters, and Black Ops III is the odd one out with its Zombies mode.
The game that started it all: up to four players, a co-op action horror setup and swarming zombie hordes plus mutant monsters. Its survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected. Expect the same push-forward teamwork you know, in a more compact package with fewer campaigns to chew through.
Best for players who want L4D2's co-op zombie fighting at much larger crowd sizes.
Zombies arrive in swarms of hundreds here, and you handle them as part of a squad of up to four players. The camera moves behind your shoulder in a third-person shooter, and the story hops across cities from New York to Moscow to Japan and Jerusalem, so the scenery changes far more than in one region of the Deep South.
Best for shooter fans who want zombie maps alongside campaign and multiplayer.
The zombies here are a mode inside a bigger shooter, which also has a campaign and multiplayer. The Zombies Chronicles Edition adds eight remastered classic Zombies maps. It suits a fan who likes shooting the undead in a first-person view, though it is much more a full-blown shooter package than a dedicated co-op horror game.
Best for L4D2 players curious about co-op shooting inside the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Co-op first-person shooting remains, but the horde becomes the monsters of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, drawn from a cult board game. You play a Terminator of the Deathwing, the first company of an elite order. Expect a richer multiplayer mode than the original and a very different, heavily armored fantasy.
Best for bigger squads who want co-op horror shooting set in devastated England.
Another co-op survival horror FPS, here with up to six players. You and your friends are military troops dropped into the English countryside and cities after cloning experiments go wrong, and the mission is to survive long enough to cleanse the area. The setting leans darker and more grounded than the Deep South road trip.
