What to consider
Summarized by AIReady or Not players want tactical squad shooting where careful movement matters and the team leads. These five range from fellow co-op games like Zero Hour and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to tactical military shooters such as Ground Branch, both Insurgency titles, and Squad-like realism without the same missions.
1. Zero Hour
Best for squads who want co-op missions and a competitive mode in the same game.

The tactical squad idea is intact, with a team-based twist. Up to 10 players take on cooperative missions in Bangladesh, or you go solo with up to 9 AI squad mates, and there are hostage rescue and bomb defusal modes as well as a 5v5 PvP mode.
Standout features
- Up to ten-player co-op
- Hostage rescue missions
- 5v5 bomb defusal
The tone is deliberate and unforgiving, like the realistic tag on your game. You lead special operations forces on deniable ops around the globe, and the developers describe it as a rebirth of the tactical realism genre of the late nineties.
Standout features
- Deniable global ops
- Calculated, unforgiving pace
- Tactical realism roots
Death is instant and ammo is scarce here, so teamwork and skill decide each fight. You push through war-torn streets to secure objectives under deadly ballistics and artillery strikes, with light attack vehicles in play. Expect the same slow, careful tension as a raid, only in open streets with vehicles and artillery overhead.
Standout features
- Instant-death combat
- Artillery strikes
- Light attack vehicles
Close quarters combat comes first. Teams fight over strongholds and destroy enemy supply, in a game that is both multiplayer and cooperative. Its one-life design makes every move count, as in a raid. Because it is a Source Engine game aimed at multiplayer and co-op, it suits groups who want rounds that start fast.
Standout features
- Stronghold control
- Destroy enemy supply
- One-life balance
5. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas 2
Best for players who want a tactical shooter set in a casino city.
21 votes
The shooter and tactics core is there, in a more cinematic wrapper. This sequel returns to Sin City to face a terrorist siege, with co-op and single-player both on offer. Solo play helps on nights when nobody else is online.
Standout features
- Las Vegas siege
- Co-op support
- Tactical shooter sequel
