Big update: No Bottom, the bandstand, a new menu
The game isn't out yet, and it already has a major patch.
The demo has been updated today. Everything below will also be in the full game when Early Access starts on October 29.
No Bottom — an endless mode
- A shaft with no floor: tiers of 40–60 m and three biomes (limestone, old workings, crystal grottos). The deeper you are, the further apart the holds.
- Your lamp burns down. Traders on the ledges sell oil, buy ore and offer mutations that last for one run. Several mutations stack, and they change a run a lot.
- Co-op for up to 4 players in the same shaft. If your lamp goes out, a friend can share oil with you; if nobody comes, you watch the others climb.
- Shaft of the day: one seed for everyone, a daily Steam leaderboard and an all-time depth leaderboard.
- Events: a draught (the lamp burns faster), a dark tier, rockfall down the wall, a buyer who pays double for one kind of ore.
- At the depth of your last failure you can find the lamp you lost.
- Separate save: the campaign is not touched.
Camp
- A bandstand for up to 4 players. Hit the notes in rhythm; a long streak gives Inspiration for the next climb. Other players see the notes above the musicians. At night a radio plays quietly.
- The base is laid out again: a square with the shaft entrance and the market in the middle, four districts with their own lamp colour and picture signs.
- The job board is easier to read and pays in pitons and Stillglass plates, not only credits.
- Gear caches with pitons, lamps and anchors are scattered around the world.
Climbing
- A new anchor: a forged screw with a winch. The rope drops at once and you can climb it both ways. Clip a teammate to the rope and wind them up.
- Rest ledges are now stones grown into the wall instead of metal platforms.
- Recommended difficulty is gentler: lighter backpack weight, holds a little closer, a Second Wind when stamina runs out, and a non-fatal fall sometimes keeps the backpack intact. Hard is almost unchanged, Hardcore is unchanged.
- Copper and iron sell for 1.5× more; days 1–3 have a starter sale bonus until the team has earned 500 credits.
Interface and sound
- New main menu: night, a rope at the shaft wall, menu items in chalk on the rock, the lamp beam as the cursor. Pebble can be swung with the mouse.
- Screens without panels: text sits on the picture, the trader has a price tag on a string, mutations are specimens under glass.
- Hints are pictures instead of text.
- Many synthesized sounds are replaced with recorded ones: rope creak under load, piton clink, wind and rockfall in the shaft, the lift motor and others (CC0, sources in the game files).
- 8 new achievements.
- All of it is translated into the six languages.
In the demo, No Bottom goes down to the 7th tier and shows all three biomes; the bandstand has no upgrades.
If something breaks or feels wrong, write in the discussions or on Discord — I read everything before the release.
