Welcome to blockia, a block-building simulator for children and adults!
Hello from 4th Branch! For this first announcement, I would like to share how blockia began and what I hope to bring to the people who play it.
What if we could build more freely?
It started while I was playing with blocks with my child. Sometimes we did not have enough of the pieces we needed to make what we imagined. Other times, starting something new meant taking apart a creation we had worked so hard to finish. Each time, I found myself wishing my child had more freedom to build.
At the same time, playing together brought back my own childhood love of blocks. It was no longer just about making something for my child. I wanted to put my heart into a creation of my own, too. blockia grew out of both of those feelings.
Making every block a pleasure to place
The joy of blocks is not only in looking at a finished creation. It is also in making it: choosing a piece, deciding where it should go, and watching an idea take shape one block at a time. I wanted to preserve that feeling in a game.
That is why I pay close attention to the shapes and colors of the blocks, as well as the visual effects and sounds when you place them. In Build Mode, I want the simple act of placing a single block to feel enjoyable in itself.
Photographs to match the care you put into building
After putting time and care into something of your own, you want to show it at its best. That is the idea behind Photo Mode.
Here, I deliberately aim for a photorealistic look. By adjusting the background, lighting, and composition, I want adults to be able to work toward a photograph they can feel proud of, too. After getting every block just right, I hope you will find yourself just as absorbed in deciding how to photograph your creation.
Time together, or a quiet break for yourself
If you have children, I hope you will try making something together. Talk about what to build next, and enjoy a little time when both parent and child can get completely caught up in creating.
And if you loved blocks when you were younger, I hope blockia can bring some of that feeling back. Take a quiet break and lose yourself in stacking blocks. Some days you might make something small; on others, you might spend time perfecting a more ambitious creation. I hope you will enjoy it in your own way.
What comes next
The Steam store page is live, and I am currently preparing a demo. I will share more about its availability when it is ready.
If blockia sounds like something you would enjoy, please add it to your wishlist. I would also love to hear what you would like to build, your own memories of playing with blocks, and any questions or first impressions in the community discussions.
The images here are actual gameplay screenshots and in-game photos from the full version. The demo has limits on available parts, board sizes, and other features, so not every example shown can be recreated in the demo.
