Mod Policy
We’re happy to see the community creating maps, mods and other content for the game, and we want modding to grow openly and fairly. With this update we’re introducing clear rules: what’s allowed, where to publish it and what’s prohibited.
Where to publish mods
The official platform for CarX Drift Racing Online 2 mods: DRO2 mod.io hub
- Maps can be installed directly from the game via the built-in browser.
- Mods are downloaded and installed manually.
On mod.io you can rate mods, leave comments and submit reports, which our moderation team will review. Mods published on other websites are not prohibited as long as they follow the rules below. However, we don’t review or support them. You install them at your own risk.
Mods and monetization
All mods must be free and available to all players. It is prohibited to:
- sell mods or access to them;
- lock a mod or any of its features behind a paid subscription, support tiers, keys, etc.;
- give early or exclusive access to those who support the author financially.
Accepting voluntary support (Patreon, Boosty, Ko-fi, etc.) is allowed. There’s just one condition: the mod must be fully available to everyone for free right away, and a donation must not unlock anything. Simply put: “Liked the mod? Buy the author a coffee.”
What is prohibited
A mod is prohibited, wherever it is published, if it:
- copies, extracts or uses (i.e. steals) other players’ liveries, car tunes or other content without their consent;
- gives an advantage over other players in competitive modes;
- interferes with the servers, network communication or game protection;
- tampers with account data;
- disrupts or ruins the game for players who don’t use mods, even unintentionally;
- contains malicious code or collects user data;
- distributes the game files in full or third-party copyrighted material without the rights holder’s permission.
Mods in online
Online rooms are the most popular mode, so we assess how each mod affects the online experience on a case-by-case basis. The general rule: anything that changes the game only for you and doesn’t affect other players, their data or fair competition is acceptable. In disputed cases, the decision rests with the moderation team. If in doubt, message us on Discord before publishing your mod: CarX Drift Racing Online Discord Server
Violations
- Prohibited mods are first hidden and may then be removed from mod.io . If such a mod is distributed on other platforms, we will request its removal, including on copyright grounds.
- For creating, distributing or using prohibited mods, we reserve the right to restrict or revoke an account’s access to online modes.
- Found a prohibited mod? Report it to us through any of our available contact channels.
These rules may be updated in the future. Thank you to everyone who makes the game better!
