Codex Mortis 1.0 is OUT NOW! Online co-op, ten schools of magic and 31 heroes

GROLAF

Hi Necromancers!

First of all, THANK YOU for supporting us through Early Access. Codex Mortis leaves Early Access today stronger than it has ever been, and your feedback is the reason. Thank you for every post on the Steam forum and every message on our Discord. You reported bugs, told us what felt off and shared your builds, we couldn’t be more grateful for all of YOU! <3

To celebrate 1.0, Codex Mortis is 30% off on Steam. If you have friends who were waiting for the full release, now is a good time to bring them into your party. Online co-op is finally here.

We made a new gameplay trailer for the full release. Watch it below:

Alongside 1.0 we are releasing a 15-minute documentary about how Codex Mortis was made with AI, from a prototype in a chat window to the full release on Steam. GROLAF, the developer behind the game, tells the whole story:

What's new in 1.0

Online co-op for up to four players

Online co-op was the one feature we promised on the first day of Early Access, and it is here. Host a game over Steam or join one of the sessions your friends have open. Lock the lobby with a password, or share its code with the people you want in. If a player crashes or drops mid-run, they can rejoin the game in progress while the rest of the party keeps playing. Local co-op is still there too.

Five new schools of dark magic

Five new schools join the original five and bring 100 new spells with them. That makes ten schools and 200 spells in all.

  • Harvest: the scythe's art of culling the living.
  • Death Knight: close-quarters swordplay, with heavy cleaves, blades raining from the sky, spectral armor and war cries.
  • Spiritism: forbidden rites, spirit turrets and sacrificial urns.
  • Desolation: sand shades and zones that punish the living.
  • Apothecary: dark alchemy, elixirs and blight.

Every school combines with every other, so the new ones also bring new synergies and mutations on top of everything you worked out during Early Access.

20 new heroes

Twenty new necromancers join the roster, which now counts 31 heroes. Most of them are built around two or three schools at once. Ravena Bloodscythe pairs Blood Magic with Harvest, and Seraphon Wraithblade blends Harvest, Death Knight and Soul Magic.

Four new levels in the Apocrypha

The Apocrypha, the second chapter of the story campaign, grows by four levels: The Garden of Returned Flesh, The Golden Rot, The First Mercy and The Road to Blood Bath. The Road ends in a three-phase boss with 600,000 HP. All four levels can also be played in Survivor mode.

New to Codex Mortis?

Before every mission you build a deck from the spells you own and carry it into a battlefield full of the undead. The points you earn in your runs buy booster packs, and every pack widens the pool your next deck comes from. The game is fully isometric, supports ultrawide screens and controllers, is Steam Deck Verified and comes in 28 languages.

Thank you for playing with us, from the demo, through Early Access, all the way to 1.0. Come tell us about your runs on our Discord.

See you in the Apocrypha! <3
