Engine Room Dev Update 0.3.4
Hello, Everyone!
Welcome back to another Engine Room Dev Update! Patch 0.3.4 is now live for everyone in EverRail Early Access, bringing a fresh round of improvements based on your feedback.
If you caught our latest Conductor's Log 17: Still Warm, you might recognise a few of the changes we've been working on. Did you guess what was coming?
One of your most-requested improvements is finally here: customisable keybindings! You can now rebind all important keys to suit your playstyle, with a more organised controls menu to make everything easier to find.
We've also reworked survival with Medikits, passive health regeneration, and adjustments to Hunger and Stamina. Alongside these changes, we've improved weapon and enemy balancing, refined the early-game tutorial, and fixed several multiplayer, camera, and location issues.
Your feedback continues to shape EverRail throughout Early Access. Whether you're sharing suggestions, reporting bugs, or telling us what could work better, it helps us decide what to tackle next.

Now, let's get into Patch 0.3.4!
New: Medikits & Health Regeneration
We've made some changes to how healing works, giving you more ways to manage your health while exploring.
- Added Medikits, a new consumable that restores health. You can find them among consumable loot in locations.
- Added a preliminary Medikit crafting recipe to the Synthesizer.
- Health now regenerates automatically as long as you're neither Hungry nor Starving.
- Important: Food no longer restores health. You'll need Medikits for immediate healing, or you can stay fed and allow your health to regenerate over time.
New: Hit Reactions
- Characters now have different voice reactions when taking damage, including grunts, groans, and yelps.
Improved: Keybindings
We've made it easier to customise your controls to suit how you play.
- All important keys can now be rebound under Settings > Controls > Keybindings.
- Keybindings have been reorganised into clearer groups for easier navigation.
Improved: Survival Balancing
We've adjusted several survival mechanics to make resource management more balanced.
- Food now reduces Hunger more effectively, meaning you won't need to eat as often.
- Jumping now consumes Stamina.
- Stamina regeneration now increases Hunger.
- Hot Soup has been renamed Self-Heating Soup and now also reduces Hunger.
- The food and cold challenge now only requires Self-Heating Soup.
- Updated descriptions for food and healing items to better explain their effects.
Improved: Location Tutorial
We've adjusted the tutorial's pacing to give new players more time to understand the core systems before facing their first major challenges.
- The tutorial now introduces the Medikit and toolbelt first.
- Hunger and Field Rations are introduced after the CryoPod.
- The escape timer now begins at the Command Console, just before the exit.
- The first crafting task aboard the train now requires a Medikit alongside Gun Ammo.
Improved: Weapon Balancing
We've made several adjustments to weapons and aiming to improve combat balance.
- Sniper and precision rifles now deal less damage per shot, while headshots remain rewarding.
- Heavy shotguns are most effective at close range, with damage dropping off more quickly over distance.
- Reduced maximum ammunition capacity at higher levels for the HP-Wolverine, LP-Fox, and LS-Guinea.
- Added zoom while aiming down sights for better precision.
- Adjusted the minimum and maximum values of the Field of View slider.
- Pistol reload animations now play correctly.
Improved: Enemy Balancing
We've adjusted robot accuracy to make encounters more consistent across different distances.
- Robots remain dangerous at close range, but their accuracy now decreases with distance.
- Later-game robots have higher accuracy.
- Fixed an early-game robot that was landing most of its shots regardless of distance.
Improved: Train
- Updated the player character's skeleton while aboard the train, correcting hand skinning issues.
Bug Fixes
Multiplayer
- Fixed an issue where clients could experience different weather conditions from the host.
- Fixed the toolbelt disappearing after a client reconnects.
- Fixed the repair kit remaining equipped alongside other tools after a client enters and exits the train.
Locations & Exploration
- Fixed robots occasionally spawning through location floors or ceilings.
- Turrets no longer appear in the first five locations.
- Fixed location information windows not opening on the map while flying the glider.
- Fixed CryoPods opening when the train is already at passenger capacity. The Hacking Kit console can still take passengers beyond the limit.
- Fixed a tutorial locker remaining empty after loading a save, which could prevent players from obtaining a required tutorial item.
Train & Camera
- Fixed players getting stuck in the train's free camera or reverse camera modes.
- Fixed missing glider launch wagon doors on Blue Gold and White Gold trains before launching.
- Fixed camera movement popping at the beginning and end of a sprint.
Inventory & Animations
- Fixed inventory drag-and-drop issues when dropping an item while another item was being dragged.
- Fixed an unnatural left-hand pose when the player character is shocked.
