Global Protocol: New World Order

Update 0.5.23: Currents of Power — Trade Hubs, Spheres & Map Peace

Dorlion Interactive

Update 0.5.23: Currents of Power completely transforms how the world of Global Protocol trades, exercises diplomatic hegemony, and resolves wars on the map. Hello, world leaders! Currents of Power is one of our largest releases yet. It simulates global commerce through authentic ports and shipping routes, introduces consent-based Spheres of Influence as the foundation for our upcoming overlord and vassal systems, brings peace negotiations directly onto the 3D globe, refines macroeconomics, and delivers our major UI overhaul alongside new modding skinning tools.

UI Skinning via Mods: The Foundation for Custom Interfaces

Alongside our UI overhaul, we are introducing deep UI skinning and layout modding:

  • Modders can customize the HUD's visual identity using design tokens in Content/ui/theme.json—changing palettes, borders, and panel styling.
  • Layout modding via Content/ui/layout.json allows rearranging, replacing, or hiding specific HUD slots while keeping simulation bindings.
  • The in-game Mod Builder features an Interface tab to preview token palettes and slot templates live.
  • This architecture serves as the foundation for custom UI themes, tailored layouts, and community interfaces in upcoming updates.

Global Trade Hubs & Sea Lanes

Global commerce now flows between authentic locations along living trade arteries:

  • 236 trade centres on real ports and hubs (New York, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Istanbul, Port Said, Singapore), linked by 145 sea and overland trade lanes.
  • In Economy map mode, hubs grow with passing trade volume, and your nation's trade flows are drawn in gold.
  • Hubs generate transit handling fees and commerce bonuses that scale with activity; conquering a province claims its hub.
  • Chokepoints & Closed Straits: 14 chokepoints govern sea trade. Four crises can close straits—Suez, Malacca, Hormuz, and Taiwan Strait—rerouting shipping around continents (e.g. Cape of Good Hope) at higher freight costs.
  • Wars halt trade between enemies, embargoes leave a trickle, and naval blockades sever half of a coast's sea trade.

Negotiated Deals & The Auto-Sell Engine

  • Revamped Trade hub: Overview, Buy/Sell, Offers, Auto Trade, and Log tabs.
  • Bilateral supply contracts: accept, reject, or counter-offer on volume, price (fixed or indexed to world rates), and terms from 1 to 20 years.
  • Track deliveries against promises with a live partner delivery reliability score.
  • Buy/Sell ranks suppliers by delivered cost (goods price plus freight to your destination ports).
  • One-Switch Auto-Sell Engine: liquidate excess stock above your chosen N-month reserve buffer with a single toggle.
  • Private trade matches with preferred partners first before the world pool; a visible foreign account tracks forex reserves and import cover.

Spheres of Influence: Foundation for Overlords & Vassals

The diplomatic hierarchy has been rebuilt from scratch, establishing the direct foundation for our upcoming Overlord, Vassal, and Subject gameplay:

  • Superpowers lead up to 10 members, Great Powers up to 6, and Regional Powers up to 3.
  • Mutual consent: no country joins without agreeing, and human players are never forced into a foreign sphere.
  • Distinct Charters (Security, Economic, Political) define obligations and benefits before members join.
  • Build Influence (0–100) via trade, aid, debt, pacts, and projects; invite at 35, or accept petitions from smaller states seeking protection.
  • Rival powers can issue defection offers to entice members away; leaders enjoy demotion grace if their rank slips.
  • This sphere architecture provides the foundational mechanics upon which future vassalage, protectorates, and proxy states will be built.

Interactive Map-Based Peace Negotiations

Ending wars is now an intuitive, visual process on the globe:

  • The new Peace negotiation view docks in the war inspector: click occupied provinces directly on the 3D globe to demand or cede territory.
  • Every demand draws from a dynamic peace budget generated by your war score.
  • Real-time AI evaluation: the defending AI responds immediately with Will accept or Will refuse with explicit strategic reasoning (no unearned white peaces).
  • Regime Change Demands: victors can force political capitulation, installing an ideologically aligned leadership.

Macroeconomics & Domestic Realism

  • Expectations Inflation Model: monetary policy models inflation expectations and real interest rates. Automated central banking manages price stability, guided by the Reserve Shield before tightening.
  • Anchored Stability Shocks: political crises leave a persistent baseline imprint (0.1 anchor), preventing unrealistic overnight collapse while requiring genuine reform for recovery.
  • Fightable Corruption: corruption drifts dynamically with governance laws and stability. Launch Anti-Corruption Campaigns under Decisions to root out graft—carrying real state costs and failure risks.
  • Demographics and HDI baselines are updated using real-world population data and UNDP benchmarks.

Missile Salvos & Layered Defense

  • Salvo Firing: designate a target coordinate once and fire multiple missiles simultaneously. The "any silo" salvo mode automatically selects and fires only from silos within valid range.
  • Air and missile defense networks provide more effective layered protection against incoming strikes.

Modding Evolution & Visual Node Graphs

  • In-game Mod Builder in the pause menu allows live testing and hot-reloading of balance tweaks, events, and scenarios without restarting.
  • Visual node graph editors for custom research tracks, doctrine trees, and national goal hierarchies.
  • Scenario creators can initiate games mid-war, establish day-one diplomatic pacts, configure starting leader identities, and use the Data Painter tool to customize province terrain and resource deposits.

Multiplayer & Engine Hardening

  • Multiplayer is now available to everyone, backed by country ownership safeguards to ensure command security.
  • Peer-independent determinism guarantees consistent naval combat, strategic bombing, and ground resolution across all clients.
  • Seamless resync ensures player commands reliably survive reconnects without pausing other participants.
  • Over 2,600 newly translated text lines across all 13 supported languages (zero English fallbacks); saves carry forward.
