The Co-op Update: new characters, a new city and up to four friends
Hello Store Owners!
A week ago v2.0 rebuilt how the store works. This update rebuilds almost everything you see: the people, the street outside, the store itself, every screen and the news. And for the first time, you don't have to run the store alone.
A new Market Is Fine
- New characters: every customer has been redrawn as a cartoon character, and each one walks and stands around in their own way.
- Your own clerk: design them in the staff room: skin, hair style and colour, beards and moustaches, six hats, five pairs of glasses and the store apron. The arms holding your mop and your stick are your clerk's.
- A new city: the street outside was built again from scratch. There are real rooms behind the apartment windows and real shops behind the shop windows, and the walkable neighbourhood around the store is twice as big, with a back alley and a loading door.
- A new store: a new building, with new walls, floor and ceiling inside.
- A new look: a torn-cardboard interface everywhere, from the main menu to the HUD. The main menu is now your stockroom after closing time.
Online co-op for 1-4 players
- Open a room from the main menu and invite friends through Steam. Everyone meets in the staff room before the shift.
- Proximity voice chat: voices come from each player's mouth, fade with distance and sound muffled through walls.
- One shared till that anyone can work, personal wallets paid from the till, and a tablet shop for your own (questionable) tools.
- Throw boxes to each other. Or at each other. Whoever dies watches from the dead chat until morning, where only the other dead can hear them.
- A G wheel with 10 dances and 8 gestures, and the Awards of the Day at closing time.
- Solo play is still fully there.
Zimmet: one of you is pocketing the cash
On news days, one player can secretly be the embezzler: skimming the till, pocketing the courier's cash, cutting the power, breaking the cameras. Customers notice things, the tablet keeps a security log, and at closing time everyone votes on who did it, evidence in hand.
MEGAFINE is at the door
In co-op rooms a rival chain decides you're not welcome. First a letter under the door, then a second, less polite one. Then they show up. Everyone lines up at the door for the standoff and votes on how to answer. If it turns into a fight, you'll see it again that evening: MIF NEWS airs the slow-motion replay.
Bailout Casino, right across the street
Walk out of the store, cross the street, lose the rent. Crisis Machine slots, single-zero roulette, blackjack, the Fact Check Desk (bet on whether today's unconfirmed story gets debunked) and Maybe Tomorrow scratch cards. And a very tired dancer with an LED debt counter.
The truck, the courier and the bike
- Every morning the black-marketeer's battered fruit truck backs into the alley behind the store with your orders. Furniture arrives in a crate. His stall sells cheap trending goods, and the bike.
- Courier orders: the neighbourhood orders from your shelves and someone has to walk them to a real door in the city. Watch out for bag snatchers.
- The bike can be bought, ridden, parked… and stolen.
- Drop items or hand them to a friend.
MIF NEWS in a real 3D studio
The morning news now comes from a live 3D studio, with an anchor, an LED wall and field footage for every story. The story still decides what customers want that day, and from day 4 some of it is still fake.
And also
- A new How to Play screen, in the main menu and the pause menu.
- Less hand-holding: messages that only repeated what you can already see are gone.
- A rebalanced economy, tuned on a simulated month of play.
- DLSS and FSR 1 upscaling, and microphone and headset choice for voice chat.
- Skipping the news is now a setting (Settings > Gameplay), off by default.
- Japanese, Korean and Chinese text no longer turns into empty boxes in the world.
Still in Early Access
Market Is Fine stays in Early Access for now. This is the update where 1.0 takes shape, and co-op is brand new, so expect a few rough edges. Tell me what works and what breaks: your feedback decides what 1.0 looks like.
Bugs and ideas go to the Steam Discussions or our Discord. And if you're enjoying the game, an honest review helps a small studio more than anything.
Grab three friends. Everything is fine.
