1st Anniversary Update
Dear survivors, citizens of Zaslavie, comrades, please listen to the important message from the Zaslavie Commissary!
Today is the first anniversary of MISERY, the day when the Zone started a whole new life for us all.
Since that day, over 1.5 million survivors have visited the Zone! We saw great victories over mutants, intruders, and evil corporations trying to ravage and destroy our glorious motherland.
We also saw dark days of incompetent and treacherous decisions by capitalistic agents among us. We cannot forget and forgive those responsible for the bread and vegetable crises! And we appreciate your loyalty during these challenging days.
We prevail together, working as one for the glory of our beautiful Zaslavie! This is just the beginning of the story, and we have lots of great things coming.
Today we are happy to announce a new update, adding some great features, fixing the most annoying problems, bringing new content, and most importantly, setting up foundations for future improvements and content expansion.
Here is what changed in the Zone:
- New trading interface - we completely reworked how trading works, and it will give us a way to let players sell many items that you can find in the Zone. You can already sell weapon magazines and over a dozen new items, and we will extend it a lot in the next update.
- New anomaly - Rusted Grass.
- A quick move bug in the Crematorium fixed.
- Items disappearing from craft stations fixed.
- We reworked the weapon attachment system. Now weapons can camouflage, and we will bring in muzzle devices, tactical attachments, and scopes to all the weapons in the next update in 1-2 weeks.
- New weapon models - all guns updated, one new gun added: AK-74SU. More guns are coming in the next update.
- New gunplay - completely reworked. New recoil system, new charging, and reloading animations.
- We know that gunfights are an essential part of the experience, and now you can really feel your weapon.
- New ammo caliber added. PPSH and TT now use 7.62x25 ammo.
- Over a dozen new locations and Points of Interest in the Village biome.
- New mutants - Stray Dogs and Wendigo. Freaking scary things!
- New animations for Ratwolf.
- New basic animations for players.
- Mutants do not get stuck when surrounding you - just in time for the Stray Dogs!
- 14 new equipment items.
- 15 new loot items.
- Lots of visual improvements in environments - new models, new materials, and animations.
- Anti-griefer functionality - now host players can limit who is allowed to build, pick up, and destroy structures. You can grant and withdraw this right from the player list. You can also set up a default option for new players in server settings. That should help a lot to keep our bunkers safe!
- We've implemented a completely new audio system and fully reworked the gunshot sounds for every firearm in the game: AK-74, AKS-74U, PPSh, Kiparis, AS Val, Saiga, Mosin-Nagant rifle, SVD, TT-33, PM, TOZ, and the sawed-off shotgun. Each weapon now has its own distinct, layered sound. Every gunshot is built from multiple components: the initial blast, mechanical action, low-frequency impact, and lingering sound tail. Each element has been individually created and fine-tuned for every weapon to emphasize its unique character, from the sharp crack of a pistol to the powerful boom of a rifle. The new audio system also lays the foundation for future sound improvements in MISERY. Moving forward, it will allow us to make the environment feel more alive, more accurately simulate the acoustics of different spaces, and further enhance the atmosphere of the game world.
We are working on a new economy pass, allowing us to let players sell all the items you find in the Zone without crashing the economy.
We will launch a separate beta test branch and let players test it first, make adjustments, and fine-tune all the numbers to make sure it works as expected, is logical and fun, and that there are no loopholes. When we are happy with it, we will extend it to the main branch.
We will share a separate update on that in the coming days.
We are also continuing to work on a MISERY short movie, and here are a few scenes from the backstage.
Thank you so much for reporting bugs and suggesting ideas, comrades. Together, we are making Zaslavie a better place!
And if you like the game, the best way to support the team is to write a review on Steam. It is incredibly important for small indie devs like us, so please take a minute to write a few words!
For Zaslavie!
