Not Quite Dead: Open World Survival

New Survival Feature : Broken Bones

Voidecho Studio

Hey survivors!

A new injury system has been added to Not Quite Dead: Broken Bones.

Players can now suffer a fracture from:

  • Heavy physical damage
  • Dangerous falls
  • Certain severe impacts

For normal heavy physical damage, there is a 10% chance to suffer Broken Bones when the hit is strong enough.

Falling from a dangerous height can cause a fracture automatically.

What happens when you break a bone?

When Broken Bones is active:

  • Your character is forced into the existing Walk movement mode
  • Sprint is completely disabled
  • Pressing the Walk key cannot bypass the injury
  • A red damage-screen effect appears once
  • A bone-crack sound can play
  • A pain sound can play
  • A Broken Bones status icon appears on the HUD

The injury also remains after being downed and revived.

How do you treat it?

A new item has been added:

Splint

Using a Splint while injured will:

  • Remove the Broken Bones effect
  • Restore normal movement
  • Re-enable Sprint
  • Remove the status icon

If you are not injured, the Splint will not be wasted.

The system is fully server-authoritative in multiplayer, so only the affected player receives the injury state and local feedback.

This is another small step toward making survival, medical items and dangerous exploration feel more meaningful.

Thanks for playing and for all the feedback!
