Build v0.99.1 - Stream overhaul and more!
LONG list of updates for streamers, so I tried to break it up a bit. Chat can now name their own tapes something other than their username, and every name waits for your okay before it goes on a cover. Almost every chat command got a cleanup too, with two new ones. If something is broken or you have a suggestion, be sure to let me know in the Discord!
Streaming: Name a Tape
- Chat can now type the title of their tape. Turn on Custom tape names on the Stream tab (off by default), then viewers type !tape and the title.
- There is no profanity filter besides Twitch's built-in chat filter which will catch things before sending it to the game typically. Only links and a short list of slurs are blocked by the game itself, so every name chat sends waits for you to approve it.
- The store CRT brings up a review page with each name, the viewer, the genre and the tape it would rename. Mark each one ACCEPT or PASS, or use ACCEPT ALL / PASS ALL.
- Accepted names go on the covers when you pick UPDATE NOW, or on the next store load.
- A passed name never touches a tape. The viewer is told in chat without the title, and they are blocked from requesting custom titles for the remainder of the stream.
- New setting (Ask to update covers) sets how often the store asks to re-bake the covers when a user redeems !tape: Every time, or After 5, 10 or 20 names.
- Names that are waiting show on the !tape card in the Stream settings with a Review now button, and on the terminal's SYSTEM page next to EDIT TAPES. Edit tapes on the main menu opens on the same review.
- Channel points spent on a tape name are held until you decide. Accept keeps them, pass refunds them.
- Mods can type !tape pass and a viewer's name, or !tape pass all.
- One tape per viewer is tracked by the viewer now, so a viewer whose name matches a tape title still gets their own.
Streaming: Channel points
- A refused redemption always gets a line in chat saying why, even with Reply in chat off. It also says if the points were refunded.
- Channel points no longer check Who may trigger or the viewer cooldown. A redemption carries no badges, so subscriber-only effects were refusing everyone. "Only me" still works.
- The game pauses its rewards on Twitch while it is not listening: stream effects off, channel points off, logged out, or the game closed. Anything redeemed while it was away is refunded on the next connect, with a line in chat.
- An effect's cooldown shows on its Twitch reward too.
- A redemption delivered twice only fires once.
- The !tape and !party rewards take extra parameters on Twitch now. If you created rewards before this patch, press Remove channel-point rewards, then Create channel-point rewards once.
Streaming: New commands
- !timeofday sunrise, midday, sunset, midnight or golden. The sky jumps there for 90 seconds, then goes back. Only the sky changes, not the store's clock. 200 points and a five minute cooldown by default.
- !hat: your kitten puts on its next hat and runs over to show it. Works once the kittens have hats. !hat 2 picks your second kitten.
- !party and a song title plays that cassette for the party. !party on its own still picks a random one.
- Questions chat can ask: !store (tapes sorted and genres done), !kittens (the names of your kittens), !community (the shared goal), !cassette (what is on the PA) and !mytape.
- !help party (or !party ?) says what an effect does.
- New aliases: !cat and !kitty for !kitten, !tapes for !tape, !grumps for !grumpyarmy.
- Mods can type !effects pause 10 to pause viewer effects for ten minutes (up to 60), and !effects resume. The Stream tab shows who paused it, with a RESUME button.
Streaming: Chat replies
- Replies say what happened: the song that started, the section the grump picked, how many tapes went flying, how many grumps are on the way.
- When something can't happen the reply says why. A party already on says how long is left, a full store says the kitten cap, and kittens that are racing or can't reach you say so.
- Less chat spam. The first reply goes out right away and the rest of a burst fold into one line (12 more from Alex, Bob, Cy and 9 others). The same refusal is only said once, and the game never posts more than 10 lines in 30 seconds.
- !effects, !help and the questions answer once a minute.
- Reply in chat has three settings now: Everything, When needed and Off. When needed keeps refusals, redemption results, tape reviews, mod commands and answers to questions.
- On-screen credits queue up instead of overwriting each other, and credits for the same effect merge into one.
- A failed effect no longer replies "not right now (not possible right now)".
Streaming: Kittens and the derby
- Derby refusals say how many kittens are here, or how many seconds until the next one.
- The boost reply names the kitten and its place, and the final order is posted when the race ends.
- A renamed viewer kitten reads the same everywhere.
- The KITTENS page sorts chat's kittens by viewer and counts STAFF and CHAT.
- A viewer kitten's arrival line names the hat it was dealt, once the kittens have hats.
- New Always show names option on the !kittensayhi and !allkittens cards. Nearby viewer kittens keep their name tags up, not only the ones saying hi.
- Petting lines mention the viewer so it pings them, and a long list ends in "and 4 more" instead of piling up more lines.
Streaming: Store effects
- A visiting grump looks for a shelf near you first, not anywhere in the store. If nobody looks at him for 90 seconds he knocks his tape and leaves.
- !dance drops your tapes when the dance starts, not before. Chat can only hold you still once every 12 seconds, the dance itself still plays.
- !party with the music volume at zero is lights only.
- !party, !drop and !cart are refused while a cutscene plays. !dance waits until you are back in the store.
- A single dropped tape pops as high as the top of a full armful.
- The caps moved onto their cards: Max viewer kittens and Kittens per viewer under !kitten, Max visiting grumps under !grump and !grumpyarmy.
- The setup guide on the Stream tab is shorter.
Party mode
- Finished rows join the party now. Each one lights up in its genre's color, with ribbons, a music meter or an infinity mirror depending on the light show, plus a glow under the tapes and a frame around the row.
- Before this, a full row covered the shelf lights, so a finished store looked duller in a party than an empty one.
- Found copies on the hero wall glow brighter than the empty slots during a party, and their foil sparkles.
- With Reduce Motion on, finished rows are lit but hold still.
Octopus
- Turning the FOV up no longer makes the arms go stiff during the dance and the sweep.
- The arms stay at the edges of the screen at any FOV. They used to creep into view the wider you went.
- The legs sit behind you when you look down, and they match the arms now.
Loading screen
- One progress bar that only goes up. It used to refill for every step.
- The loading terminal prints fewer lines about the covers.
- Spine art from packs gets its own line and its own progress. The bar used to sit still there.
Tutorial
- The cart filter tip adds a line: "Everything goes in, only that genre comes out".
- New tips after you place your first prop and your first poster say they can be resized.
Basketball
- Your tentacles stay visible while you play.
- The round starts on your first throw, not when you sit down.
- The clock and your score are on screen, above the aim meter.
- Balls still in the air at the buzzer count.
- A round is 25 seconds, down from 40.
- Balance also works on the arrow keys and the d-pad.
Fixes
- A viewer's !cart no longer counts as you finding the empty-the-cart move, so the tutorial tip still shows.
- A big crowd of viewer kittens no longer stalls the game when hats change or on a Continue.
- Test derby kittens no longer write hat records into your account.
- A finished run that hit a rate limit or an error page is kept and sent again instead of being dropped.
Have fun! -alex
