Only Straight Bros is OUT! Launch, the "AI Slop" Myth, and What's Coming Next
Hey Bros and Party People!
Only Straight Bros is officially out on Steam!
First off, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the very first players who hopped aboard the cruise liner. Seeing that first Steam review drop with "style style is everything" put a huge smile on our faces. That unique, chaotic cartoon vibe is exactly what we poured our hearts into.
Keeping It 100% Real: Launch & Sales
Let’s be completely transparent: we didn't break Steam sales records on day one. To put it mildly, barely anyone bought the game yet!
For many indie studios, that might feel like game over. For us, it's just Day 1. We genuinely love this hilarious, awkward, social-deduction disaster we created. We had a blast building it, we have a blast playing it, and we aren't going anywhere. We are committed to supporting and expanding Only Straight Bros no matter the initial launch numbers.
Addressing the "AI Slop" Accusations
We’ve noticed a few comments, reviews, and curator tags labeling the game as "AI slop." We want to address this directly and set the record straight once and for all:
- 0% Generative AI Art in the Game: There is literally NO generative AI art, no AI-generated textures, and no AI meshes in the final shipping product. Every single 3D character, environment prop, shader, and UI element is authentic gamedev.
- How AI was actually used: Like many modern indie teams, we used AI strictly behind the scenes as a dev-assistant — mainly for early concept ideation and speeding up C++ netcode boilerplates during late-night debugging sessions.
- Handcrafted Tech & Heart: All core gameplay — the custom SteamSockets multiplayer netcode, the ragdoll physics, the dynamic eye-tracking boredom system (where pupils dart toward the Predator!), the synchronized QTE duels, and the comedic catch mechanics — was designed and coded by hand.
Calling a passion project handcrafted by two indie devs "AI slop" simply isn't fair to the hundreds of hours of real work poured into the project. We stand by our stylized cartoon comedy aesthetic with pride.
Roadmap: What's Coming Next?
We are already hard at work on upcoming content updates:
- Brand New Maps & Venues: The Cruise Ship was just the beginning. We are prototyping new party locations — including a neon-lit Nightclub dancefloor with tight corridors and an outdoor Summer Plaza.
- New Interactive Props & Mechanics: More throwable distraction items, trap interactions, and new ways to bamboozle the Predator.
- QoL & Performance Polishing: Fine-tuning the QTE struggle responsiveness, bot crowd AI behaviors, and player matchmaking polish.
How You Can Support Us
If you own the game:
Grab 2–3 friends, jump into a lobby, and find out who the straightest bro in your crew really is.
Leave an honest Steam review. For a small independent game, crossing that threshold of early user reviews literally dictates whether Steam shows our game to the world.
Thank you for being here with us from the start. Grab your sunscreen, watch your back, and stay straight, bros!
