Combat & QoL Additions

Emberforge

Fellow Dwarves!

Our latest update is now live, with a brief overview brought to us by our brand-new Community Manager, Nate. Please give him a warm welcome to the team!

Combat Update

We continue to iterate and improve our combat system, and in this update we're adding combos and heavy strikes;

Combos - Every weapon now has a three-weapon combo chain, which is executed by three left-clicks, allowing you to hack away at incoming baddies.

Heavy Strike - In addition to combos, holding left-click will wind you up for a heavy strike, which does 150% of your weapon's damage at the cost of a little stamina.

But that's not all. In our steps to try and make combat just that little bit more challenging, enemies now attempt to avoid your attacks, leaping back and planning their next action, whether flanking or looking for the next opening in your defences. Along with other updates to AI, this should lead to a more engaging combat exchange.

Shovel Dig, Fill & Level

To help improve control over terrain deformation, we've fixed the stone shovel. You're now able to access three different options when using the tool;

Red - Red mode allows you to dig away at the landscape.

Green - Green mode gives you the option to add dirt, filling in a hole or raising the land.

Blue - Blue levels the ground; that way no one will ever know you were there!

Quality of Life Additions

Idle Bob

As of this patch, the items you hold will now bob and move as your dwarf does, adding just a little extra immersion to the game. We've also made sure to include an option to toggle this off for our motion-sensitive dwarves.

Cookbook Upgrade & Name Change

The cookbook was lacking, and it's time to fix this. We've begun the first steps of overhauling the Cookbook, which will now be known as the Item Catalogue and will help you track the details of all the things you'll be finding and constructing in your adventure.

FoV Changes

We're aware that many people enjoy all sorts of different fields of view, from narrow to wide! This would affect how visible the tool is and make the screen feel claustrophobic. Now, this doesn't happen. No matter your field of view, your tools will always be the same size.

Patch Notes

  • All first-person items now have a default FOV, regardless of your screen field of view, meaning they stay the same size.
  • Combo strikes for weapons
  • Held strike for weapons that does more damage and costs stamina
  • Camera does a little move in the direction of the attack
  • Tools don't hold still in the hand anymore; they move a little bit
  • AI has a new backup sequence where they'll move backwards and decide their next step, either flanking or attacking again.
  • More checks for AI doing attacks
  • Fix up the defiled watch tower in new games
  • Stone shovel can now add dirt
  • Added Quests all the way to the Deepseeker (6 new intro quests in total)
  • Refreshed loading screen images
  • Revamped the Cookbook to the Item Catalogue
