Demo Update: Hordes Pick a Street, Last Stand and Linux

Capuchin Games

Waves

Waves used to trickle in from every side at once. Now the main group picks one street. Four seconds before it arrives you hear it from that side, and a card with an arrow tells you where it is coming from.

Kill most of the first group and a second group hits you from the flank.

When six or fewer are left, they get angry and run straight at you. The card points to the nearest one and the minimap pins the rest to its edge. No more hunting the last zombie around the block.

The last kill brings up a WAVE CLEARED card with your kills and time. Between waves the card tells you what the next wave brings.

Hits

A heavy hit staggers a regular zombie and cancels its attack. A pistol shot or an axe swing does it, rifle spray does not. Brutes and champions don't flinch.

Rocket launcher and crossbow kills throw the body, so do kills with heavy melee weapons. Both guns kick harder now, and the kill marker is easier to read.

Upgrades and loot

Laptop cards come in one at a time with sound. Pressing 1, 2 or 3 the moment they open no longer picks a card by accident.

Pick up a weapon type you already upgraded and it tells you how many upgrades it carries.

Loot beacons now show what is inside. Purple is the rocket launcher and it is marked on the map. Blue is a rifle or crossbow. Gold is everything else. Guns also drop more often than before.

Fixes

  • The rocket launcher was swung like a sword. Fixed.
  • The red screen effect when the base takes damage is much lighter.
  • Fog during boss waves is less red.
  • Bloater gas clouds merge instead of stacking into a wall.
  • The rifle plays a sound for every shot.
  • Hands grip rifles properly.

Linux

The demo now has a native Linux build. It is new, so if something breaks on your setup, tell us in the discussions and include your distro and GPU.

Thanks for playing. Let us know how the new waves feel.
