Soulmask

A Special Thank-You to Our Players Across the Americas

CampFire Studio

Hi everyone, I'm ZIMA, producer of Soulmask.

For a long time I've wanted to say something to our players across the Americas. With Bone Bash launching today, it finally felt like the right moment. So here I am.

Soulmask started with a simple idea: build a game that asks what it means to exist as a human being, and how far a civilization can go. That's why the "mask" and "ancient civilizations" became our creative core from day one.

While we studied civilizations fro

m all over the world, the ancient cultures of Mesoamerica and the Andes showed us exactly the world I had in mind: ancient and mysterious, with very real ruins and yet endless room for imagination; mythologies unlike anything else, with a magic all their own; and most important of all, a deep relationship with the mask — the idea that by putting one on, you become a legend, something beyond human. That captivated us completely, and it matched exactly what I wanted to express.

And these aren't just ruins and legends. The descendants of these cultures are alive today — for many of you, they're your own grandparents, your own family. That gives us a responsibility to treat these cultures with care, not as set dressing.

So it was clear to us: the Americas were everything we needed. This is where the world of Soulmask was born.

After launch, what we felt was something far more real: the passion of players across the Americas. That warmth and patience, coming from the other side of the planet, caught us off guard — and honestly, it often made us feel we weren't doing enough. We want our work to be worthy of what every one of you has given us.

That's why, with Bone Bash, we wanted to honor the region that inspired us in the first place — from a new angle. This time, the inspiration is Día de Muertos: a tradition born in Mexico that many of you grew up with, whether in Mexico itself or in families who carried it to Los Angeles, San Antonio, Chicago, and everywhere in between. It isn't "Mexican Halloween." It's a way of welcoming back the people you've lost — with marigolds, music, food, and joy instead of fear. That's what moved us, and that's what we tried to honor.

Your opinion matters to us. If we got the spirit right, we'd love to hear it. If we got a detail wrong, tell us — we'd rather learn than pretend.

Everything about this continent has a pull that fascinates anyone who looks closely — past and present alike. And the possibilities of civilization deserve to keep being explored: what they share reminds us that we are one species; what makes each one unique reminds us that, just as every person has to find their own meaning, every civilization should walk its own path.

It's a huge subject, and Soulmask is only the beginning. But rest assured: this game will keep growing, and we'll give everything we have to make it better.

¡Feliz Día de Muertos! Thank you — gracias — for everything. Have fun out there.
