Devlog #15 — Movable Controls & Service Trains
Hi everyone,
Today we want to show two new additions to Speed Rivals: Model Trains.
The first is a small quality-of-life improvement:
You can now move the train control panel anywhere on the screen.
This gives players more freedom to place the controls where they feel most comfortable, especially when playing with different screen sizes or camera setups.
Service Trains
The bigger addition is a new gameplay system: service trains.
If a service building is placed in the layout, service trains can start appearing automatically.
These trains move around the railway network on their own and interact with wagons they find along the way.
When a service train finds a wagon, it can pick it up from either the front or the rear and move it somewhere else in the layout for a random amount of time.
This means the wagon you are looking for may not always stay where you expect it to be.
Unexpected Situations
Service trains also react to obstacles.
If one collides with your train, another object or something blocking the route, it will reverse direction and continue moving.
This creates small unpredictable situations during missions.
Sometimes a service train may move the wagon you need.
Sometimes it may appear directly on the route you wanted to take.
And if you are trying to complete a delivery quickly, you may need to rethink your path.
Watch the Test
In this video we show the movable control panel and the first version of the service train system:
This is still work in progress, but we really like how these trains make the layout feel more alive and less predictable.
Thanks for following the development of Speed Rivals: Model Trains.
