Update 0.2.7: Fleet Formations, Ship Insurance and Stronger Drones

Astraeon Interactive

Thanks for all the feedback and support! if your request, suggestion, bug report isn't listed they are carried over to the next update!

The best way to send me a bug report is now F8 in game : write what happened, and your screenshot and save come along, so I can see exactly what you saw.

NEW

  • Report Bug: press F8 (or use the pause menu) to send a bug report straight from the game, with a screenshot and your save attached if you tick them.
  • Anonymous reports: the game asks once whether it may send anonymous performance, error and balance reports (no names, no Steam ID). You can change it any time in Settings > Privacy. Crash reports work as before.
  • Fleet Formations: choose Escort Ring, Wedge, Line Abreast, Column or Box in Fleet Settings, with a live preview. Every ship gets a Front, Flank or Rear row (set automatically by its role, changeable per ship by right-click). Your fleet also lands from a warp in formation.
  • Ship Insurance: right-click any of your ships while docked and insure it for 10% of its value (hull + weapons + modules). If it is destroyed, it is rebuilt fully repaired with all its gear one day later, at your own station (or where you bought the policy). Cargo and captain are not covered, and each policy covers one loss.
  • Drone Orders: carriers now give their drones Escort, Defensive or Aggressive orders. O cycles your own, and every fleet carrier has its own order in the Fleet screen. Aggressive drones hunt across the whole sector.
  • Drone Control module (MK I to X): wider drone range, faster drone rebuilds and up to 2 extra drones per bay. Sold, crafted and found like other modules.
  • Paint your ships (Beta): press Paint in your inventory to open the Paint screen. Give each fleet ship a primary and a secondary colour, or apply them to your whole fleet. The Faction & Stations tab sets your faction colour and can paint all your ships and stations at once, whichever faction built them. Your colour also shows on the maps, radar and nameplates. In co-op, shared stations use the host's colour.
  • Restock Power Cells: fleet ships with a warp drive top up their Power Cells when they dock (Fleet Settings, on by default).
  • Market item cards have a one-click Enhance button.
  • Crafting: right-click the All chip on the Ships, Modules or Weapons tab to filter by class.

CHANGED

  • Warp energy is now a share of your own battery: a jump at your drive's full range uses your whole battery, a jump half as far uses half. Every ship, skiff to Dreadnought, can always jump its full range on a full charge. Power Cell prices are unchanged.
  • Drones are much stronger and faster: their hull, shields and weapons grow with the Drone Bay's mark and rarity and the carrier's size, and they fly about 1.8x faster, so they keep up with you and catch almost any enemy.
  • Drone Bays now come in MK I to X like other modules. Bays you already own count as Common.
  • Engines, brakes, turning, stabilizers and drives made before 0.2.5 now use the same handling numbers as new ones. Older gear felt stronger than it should; ships using it may handle a little differently.
  • Asteroid streams give less mining XP, and mining XP stops growing with sector level after level 30.
  • Construction supply ships search up to 16 jumps for materials when nothing is closer.
  • Selling at your own station with Sell All now lists everything it stores For Sale.

FIXED

  • Warp cost far more energy than most ships could store, and fleet ships stopped warping between sectors.
  • Faction stations stopped making station modules such as Docking Bays.
  • Station wallets could go millions below zero.
  • The station search sent you to stations that would not sell you the item.
  • Buy orders could stay "on the way" forever.
  • The Syndicate ledger mission could not be finished when a fleet ship picked up the ledger. Stuck saves finish on their own.
  • The faction leaders could stay "withdrawn for repairs" forever during the final war. Stuck saves recover on their own.
  • Miners with Combat unticked still chased enemies.
  • Drones arrived long after you at a fight.
  • Ships from a destroyed enemy base kept your station's docks full, so allies could not trade there.
  • Enlisting station-built ships closed the captain list straight away.
  • The Mining Guild Dreadnought could not refit Point Defense after removing it.
  • Pausing while firing a mining laser replayed its sound over and over.
  • Buying while paused could push your money below zero.
  • Mining lasers of different ranges switched on and off the wrong way round.
  • Mining drones with Keep Mining stopped for good after enough ore piled up.
  • Lag spikes in the largest galaxies.
  • Several crashes: during fleet trading, while undocking, in the main menu background and during sector updates, plus rare memory problems that could close the game after long sessions.
