Update 1.05.19: 6 new languages, new menus and settings, fixed achievements
This update is for everyone who reached out to us with kind words about Stay Close. You deserve updates, so here it is.
Now in 7 languages
Stay Close can be played from start to finish in English, German, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese and Japanese .
- Translated: menus, settings, HUD, objectives, Cyrus's dialogue and riddles, all notes, the death screen and key names.
- Riddles: you can type the answer in your own language or in English. Both are accepted, also in co-op when the two of you play in different languages.
- Proper fonts for Russian, Chinese and Japanese.
- Change the language under Settings > Game. A few signs in the world and the logo stay in English.
The translations were not checked by native speakers. If a line reads wrong or odd, please tell us in the discussions and we will fix it.
New menus and settings
- New main menu: Continue, New Game, Play with a Friend, Settings, Credits, Quit. Works with mouse and keyboard.
- New pause menu in the game. Settings can be changed while playing and apply at once.
- Volume sliders: Master, Effects and Music. They cover every sound, in the menu and in the game.
- The music and the constant background sound are quieter by default: the Music slider starts at 30. Raise it under Settings > Audio if you want more.
- Key rebinding for moving, running, interacting, flashlight and chat, plus mouse sensitivity and invert Y.
- Graphics options with auto-detect, brightness, resolution and window mode.
- Head bob is half as strong and can be switched off.
- The game starts at your desktop resolution instead of a small window.
- Objective and HUD text scale with the resolution and stay sharp at 1440p and 4K.
Achievements work now
- Finishing the game unlocks every achievement you earned. Before, only one of them was granted when the credits started, so Winner, Team Player, Survivor and Sneaky could not be earned at all.
- Survivor (finish without dying), Sneaky (never attacked by a Creeper) and Speedrunner (30 minutes) now count for the run you are playing. Before, one death or 30 minutes of total play time blocked them for good, and the first two could get mixed up.
- New Game, a new co-op game and the restart after the credits each begin a clean run.
- Achievements you missed unlock the next time you finish the game. For Survivor, Sneaky or Speedrunner start with New Game.
Other fixes
- Co-op: fixed a crash for the player who joins while the host is waiting at the "Fool me once..." objective.
- Co-op: the second player no longer stutters when running or walking backwards. Their game now uses the same speed as the host's.
- Co-op: joining from the server list responds at once. The first game in the list is already selected, and "Connecting to session..." stays on screen until the level loads.
- Co-op: sessions are limited to 2 players, which is what the game is made for. The lobby used to let more in.
- Pressing Esc while talking to Cyrus no longer leaves you stuck in the conversation.
- Monsters are a little louder, so you can hear them coming.
- The loading picture fills the screen at every resolution. On 1440p and 4K screens it was a narrow picture with black bars.
- The objective message could stay on the screen. It fades out again.
- Riddle answers ignore extra spaces and upper or lower case.
Good to know
- Your saved progress carries over, in single player and in co-op.
- Graphics, audio and control settings start from the new defaults once. Please set them again the way you like.
