Stream Train

Anything for the Content: Balancing Horror and Comedy

Half Past Yellow

In Stream Train, surviving the horror is mandatory! Your priority is keeping your stream alive, turning enemies into like-generating machines and making eating mysterious cave mushrooms seem like a perfectly reasonable idea.

Welcome to the Uncanny Valley

The Uncanny Valley is more than a setting. Its landscapes and abandoned mining towns draw inspiration from rural North America, where every town seems to hide a secret, a legend or an unexplained phenomenon.

Think of it as a landlocked Bermuda Triangle mixed with the ghost towns of the Rockies, explored by train. Except instead of avoiding the supernatural, you’ll provoke it. All for more likes.

Take in the Sights and Sounds

The art in Stream Train is really what brings the Uncanny Valley to life. Both of our artists have been working in the games industry for a long time and produce their assets in a way that would be considered “old school” now. Small hand painted textures, smart UVing and low(ish) poly designs define the Half Past Yellow style. For Stream Train we doubled down on this aesthetic by lowering the render scale and adding vertex jitter to the models. This gives the whole game a PSX vibe that we think works really well. The vertex wobbliness gives everything a mirage like feeling that really puts the uncanny in Uncanny Valley.

The music (or lack there of) plays a huge part in building the atmosphere. We decided that it was best to play it as straight as possible by having a light, upbeat tune for the lobby area and a darker atmosphere in the valley. Sound effects were tackled on a case-by-case basis for maximum impact, shifting between cartoonish slapstick and realism whenever greater immersion is needed.

Finding the Right Balance

Stream Train uses horror elements to get strong reactions out of you and your friends. The bigger the scream the better the laugh! Y ou can expect some surprises and jump scares to keep you on your toes. The comedy elements come from surprise interactions in the valley, strange suggestions from chat, and the social interactions with your friends. Chat messages are always trying to turn things up to 11 and show you what will lead to more views. Just don't die chasing the clout.

Meet the Locals, Carefully

Not every creature in Stream Train is hostile, but they can all be useful for your stream.

Some are naturally aggressive. Others remain passive… Until you provoke their wrath! Some are designed to surprise players and their viewers, while others are completely harmless and simply inhabit the valley. It’s up to you to learn how they behave and use the local wildlife to your advantage. The real question is: how far are you willing to go for likes?

After all, survival is optional. Content isn’t!

We want to support Stream Train by adding new items, monsters, and Points of Interest to visit. We are excited to see what players engage with most so we can double down in those areas.
