Overhaul Update Out Now! Super Mining Mechs Second Anniversary
Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing great!
Today Super Mining Mechs gets its biggest update since launch: a full overhaul, available today as a free update. The planets, the mechs and the co-op mining are the same ones you know. Almost everything around them has changed: a brand-new interface, smoother co-op, and a game in much better shape for the updates still to come.
Try it early on the beta branch
The update is out now on the Steam beta branch, and I’d love your help testing it before it goes live for everyone. How to join the beta:
- 1. Right-click Mining Mechs in your Steam Library.
- 2. Click Properties, then Game Versions & Betas.
- 3. Pick beta from the list.
- 4. Let the game update.
Any feedback helps, whether it’s a bug, something that feels off, or something you like. Please feel free to use the brand new in-game "Bug Report / Feedback" button in the main or pause menu. If testing goes smoothly, I hope to release the update to everyone before the weekend.
What’s changed
- A completely new interface. Every menu and the HUD have been redesigned from the ground up, around what you actually do on each screen.
- Smoother co-op. Network messages no longer cause stutters, and syncing the players takes less work.
- Any screen, any shape. Play on anything from 4:3 to 32:9 ultrawide, and the game remembers your window size and position. Fullscreen no longer starts as a bugged window.
- Safer progress. Settings save the moment you change them, and the autosave keeps running while the game is in the background.
- Better performance. Fewer stutters and better load balancing make for a smoother overall experience.
- Plus lots of smaller fixes and performance improvements.
Why an overhaul?
When the original Mining Mechs came out 3 years ago, it was the best I could make at the time as an inexperienced programmer. The codebase was already bad, but when I then built Super Mining Mechs on top of that, it got even worse. I’ve learned a lot about game development since then, and I kept seeing things I now knew how to do better: menus that could be clearer, co-op that could run smoother, bugs that were hard to track down. This update is me going back and putting all of that into the game.
The rest of the family
The original Mining Mechs and Mining Merchant get the same treatment today, so the whole series is ready for what comes next. And if you enjoy Mining Merchant, its Dino Discovery DLC arrives next week!
Thank you
To everyone who has played Super Mining Mechs, on your own or with friends: thank you. You’re the reason I can keep working on these games, and I plan to keep supporting this one for a long time. Happy mining!
