The Liminal Descent

LIMINAL DESCENT — 20 LEVELS. COUNTLESS NIGHTMARES. YOUR FEAR HAS CONSEQUENCES.

AngourStudio

This is a descent into a nightmare where your own actions can make things worse. Where running might save your life in the moment, but cost you dearly seconds later. Where the darkness hides more than just monsters, and where the choices you make at the end may change how you remember the entire journey.

Here's what makes Liminal Descent different.

YOUR SWEAT IS YOUR DOWNFALL

Fear isn't just something you feel. It's something that follows you.

Liminal Descent features a Sweat System that directly affects the difficulty of your run. Sprint too much, and your sweat level rises. As it approaches 100, the nightmare becomes increasingly dangerous.

  • The sweatier you are, the faster monsters become.
  • Sprinting aggressively causes your sweat to rise significantly.
  • Water bottles can be found throughout the game to clean yourself and reduce your sweat level.
  • The more you push yourself, the greater the risk you take.

Want to speedrun a level? Memorize the routes, optimize your movement, and get out as quickly as possible. But be careful: the faster you play, the more dangerous things can become.

Your greatest advantage can quickly become your biggest mistake.

YOUR FLASHLIGHT IS MORE THAN A LIGHT SOURCE

Darkness is dangerous, but light isn't always just about seeing what's ahead.

Your flashlight can repel certain entities when switched on, but not every monster is afraid of the light. Knowing which entities react to it — and which don't — can mean the difference between escape and death.

Press G to switch between flashlight modes, changing the range, spotlight size, and intensity.

Adapt your light to your surroundings. Learn what works. And never assume you're safe just because you can see.

AROUND 10 DIFFERENT ENTITIES — EACH WITH ITS OWN BEHAVIOUR

Liminal Descent features approximately 10 different entities across its levels, each with unique speeds and behaviours.

Some encounters demand quick reactions. Others reward patience, awareness, and learning how a creature behaves.

Every level has its own identity, routes, and threats. Some levels feature a single major danger. Others force you to deal with multiple entities at once.

You won't be dealing with the same nightmare everywhere you go.

PHYSICS THAT MAKE THE WORLD FEEL ALIVE

Almost any movable object can be pushed simply by walking into it.

Objects aren't just decorations placed around the environment. They can move, shift, and react to your presence, adding another layer of physical interaction as you explore.

In a world where every corner matters, even the environment can change the way you move through a space.

ONE NIGHTMARE. MANY DIFFERENT WORLDS.

At its core, Liminal Descent follows the dreamlike, increasingly terrifying journey of a man trying to understand what happened to him.

But the nightmare doesn't stay in one place.

Across approximately 20 levels at launch, you'll encounter distinct environments and side experiences ranging from the Backrooms to haunted houses and simulations. Some levels are more linear, while others offer more open spaces and multiple routes to explore.

The main story is the heart of the experience. The side content, however, can feel like an entire world of its own.

The Backrooms

The Backrooms is a major side-content experience, not the defining atmosphere of the entire game.

It's also the largest level, featuring many of the game's entities and some of its most difficult odds. Expect a different kind of challenge as you navigate its spaces, learn its routes, and try to survive what lurks within.

REPLAYABILITY, ROUTES, AND RISK

There isn't always just one way forward.

Many levels offer multiple routes, shortcuts, and opportunities to learn the environment. The more you understand a level, the more efficiently you can navigate it.

Speedrunners can memorize the best routes and attempt faster runs — but sprinting increases sweat, and high sweat makes the entities more dangerous.

Going faster doesn't necessarily make the game easier.

Learn the level. Manage your sweat. Choose your risks. Find your own way through the nightmare.

A DARK STORY WITH MORE THAN ONE ENDING

Beneath the entities, environments, and survival mechanics lies a darker psychological journey.

The main story follows a man attempting to uncover what happened to him, with increasingly disturbing experiences along the way. Its themes are dark, gritty, and at times deeply depressing.

But the ending isn't necessarily set in stone.

Liminal Descent includes different ways to end the game, giving you more freedom in how you approach its narrative and how you ultimately conclude the journey. Your final choices can influence whether the experience leaves you with a sense of closure, uncertainty, or something considerably darker.

The nightmare is yours to navigate. How it ends is part of the experience.

LAUNCH IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

Liminal Descent launches with approximately 20 levels, with more side content and bug fixes planned for the months following release.

Development won't simply stop at launch. The goal is to continue expanding and improving the game, taking player feedback seriously and building toward the experience it has the potential to become.

Have an idea for a new environment, an entity, a mechanic, or an improvement? Share it. Feedback and suggestions are welcome, and community input can help shape the game's future.

The main story will remain the central goal of Liminal Descent, while the expanding side content can grow into something much larger.

THE DESCENT BEGINS OCTOBER 30TH

Liminal Descent launches October 30th on Steam.

Run if you must.

But remember: the harder you run, the more dangerous the nightmare becomes.
