Lighting & Optimization Update - Beta V0.9.12T
Graphics & Lighting
- Render pipeline changed — We've moved to a different render pipeline to help us get the visual quality we're aiming for.
- Volumetric fog added — The house should feel much more atmospheric now, especially in darker areas.
- New lighting — We've reworked the lighting to go along with the new fog and give the environment a different feel.
- Improved atmosphere — Fog and lighting now work together to make the house look closer to what we've had in mind for The Reflection.
- Visual improvements across the game — A few things might look noticeably different when you load into the house, so take some time to look around.
Performance & Optimization
- We've made further optimization improvements alongside the rendering changes.
- Performance was one of our main concerns while working on the new fog and lighting.
- We didn't want to make the game look better only to have everyone running at 20 FPS, so we've been trying to find a decent balance between visuals and performance.
We'd really appreciate it if you could let us know how the game runs on your system after this update. Different hardware can produce some unexpected results, so please report any significant FPS drops, weird shadows, or fog and lighting issues you come across.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue that allowed players to climb onto pretty much any piece of furniture.
Well... mostly.
We've left a few spots untouched because we don't want to remove every little thing players discover. Some of those accidental climbing spots are honestly pretty funny, and we think it's fine to leave a few of them around.
We're not fixing every single thing just because it wasn't originally intended. Sometimes, the bugs are part of the fun. :')
That's About It!
This is a smaller update, but we're pretty happy with how the game is looking now.
We'll keep working on the visuals and performance as development continues, and there's still plenty we want to improve before Early Access.
As always, thanks for playing, testing, and reporting bugs. It genuinely helps us a lot.
Go take another look around the house. And let us know what you think of the new lighting!
