Enemy System Overhaul + New Monster Counters!
Ahoy Puppet Anglers!
We’re live with our latest update!
This one brings some brand-new ways to fight back against the things lurking in the swamp, along with a complete rebuild of our Enemy System that gives us a lot more flexibility to make encounters unpredictable, chaotic, and dangerous.
Meet the Enchanted Sparky (and Campfire)
Our newest enchanted bait is Lil’ Sparky! A handy little monster deterrent for those moments when you're not sure what lies around the next corner, or when you wanna cozy up and fish without worry of attack.
While equipped, Lil’ Sparky repels nearby monsters. Cast it to deploy an Enchanted Campfire, consuming the Bait in the process. Feed Junk to the fire to keep it burning!
You can enchant Lil’ Sparky using the new Bait + Junk combo:
Lil’ Sparky + Loosiana Booty Warmer
Or, if you’re lucky, you might find an already-enchanted one tucked inside a Loot Crate.
Enemy System Overhaul
We’ve completely rebuilt the backend that controls enemies, opening the door for more dynamic encounters now and even more possibilities in future updates.
Here’s what’s changed:
- Multiple instances of enemies that were previously limited to one can now exist at the same time.
- More Bat and Kroc locations and been added throughout the swamp.
- The Shroud can hear better and will track players in more situations.
- Enemies can now spawn and despawn mid-match.
- Bat hearing has been refined. Bats will no longer wake up when pressing Sprint while carrying a Cooler.
- The Charybdis will now eat almost anything: Players, Fish, Junk, Turtles... and yes, even other enemies.
- After eating, the Charybdis now has a chance to relocate somewhere else on the map.
- Slenderman should no longer clip through walls and now uses new spawn triggers.
- Skeeters now spawn closer to players, and larger groups can encounter multiple Skeeters at once.
Things should feel a little less predictable out there now.
Other Fixins’
- Loot Crates now despawn after being opened and will respawn somewhere else on the map.
As always, thanks for playing, reporting bugs, leaving feedback, and helping us shape Voodoo Fishin’ as we keep pushing toward 1.0.
