Changelog

Witchspire Early Access v0.3.0

CL: 31406

New Features

New Familiar: Scrappy

Introducing a very special Familiar indeed.

Scrappy is the first craftable Familiar, who cannot be found in the wild. you'll need to unlock Scrappy via Luminaries, and then craft one in a Spinner.

There are six variants of Scrappy, one per magickal element. Each of them comes with a unique ability and visuals. As you craft a Scrappy, its rarity will be randomized, so you may want to make a few until you get your preferred stats!

Each Scrappy comes with a signature ability, which changes depending on the element:

Astral Scrappy

Claps 3 times dealing Astral damage. Has a chance to spawn a falling Astral star on the target.

Crystal Scrappy

Fires a flurry of Crystal shards, dealing damage and stunning targets.

Ethereal Scrappy

Fires an Ethereal burst in a small area, dealing high damage.

Lux Scrappy

Summons a Lux tornado, dealing damage in an area. Damage is increased at the center of the storm.

Nature Scrappy

Fires homing Nature orbs dealing damage and slowing the enemy by 10% per hit

Nox Scrappy

Scrappy pirouettes up into the air, firing a Nox orb dealing heavy AoE damage. Spawns a small AoE Nox pool for 4 seconds.

To craft a Scrappy requires a few new materials which can be obtained via the Salvage Station. You could also... salvage a Scrappy . We won't judge.

Weapon Enhancement Table

Prior to this update, weapons and their abilities were completely predetermined. For example, a Stellar Burst wand would always come with two specific abilities. With Dormant Powers, everything is changing.

Experiment to your heart's content

As you find or craft weapons, you'll be able to switch out it's Primary Spell and Invoked Spell freely between other weapons. This lets you tailor your weapons to match your preferred style of play, and you can even rename your weapons!

Upgrading your Weapons and Spells

In the Weapon Enhancement Table, you can spend resources to upgrade the level of a weapon, this increases its damage which in turn benefits any spells you've added to it.

When you first craft a weapon, you'll need to insert Spell Gems into it in order to use it, until then, it's just a simple base. You can also upgrade any inserted Spells, keep reading on that note!

Spell Gems

These shiny baubles are brimming with magick, and are the key to your powers. Dormant Powers, some might say... Anyway - You'll be able to obtain gems from a variety of creatures in the world.

Chirili or Traxio might have a Lux Gem for you, while a Specra or Xilvant could drop a Nox Gem.

Even Froblins, who have been known to hoard anything shiny, may carry one. Though you'll need to bring those Mysterious Spell Gems back to a Salvage Station to figure out what they're hiding.

Every single weapon you find in the world already comes with Spell Gems that you can remove and place in a different weapon, so don't forget to bring any new finds to the Weapon Enhancement Table and play around!

As we were developing this system, we also took some time to create a few new types of Spells, including:

  • Shields: Grant yourself or an Ally some much needed protection.
  • Healing: Support-minded Witches can now heal their friends.
  • Summonings: These spells let you conjure temporary allies to fight alongside your party.

There are currently 52 Spell Gems to discover. Some rarer than others.

Spell Gems can also be Upgraded, which increases their power level and specific effects. Since you can freely move Spell Gems between weapons, we suggest keeping your favourites with you over the course of the game and continuing to upgrade them while moving them to stronger weapons over time.

Spells Gems, like many other items in Witchspire, come in several rarities. The higher the rarity, the more Sigil Slots...

Sigils

Thought we were done? We're just getting started.

Sigils let you completely change the characteristics of a Spell by adding modifiers to them.

Adding a "Ricochet" Sigil lets projectiles bounce of walls.

Adding a "Summoner" Sigil to a spell which summons allies will let you get more allies for longer!

Adding a "Bleed" Sigil deals additional damage over time.

And a "Multishot" Sigil fires bonus projectiles with every attack.

There are currently 25 Sigils in the game, some which can be purchased at a particular shop, and many which can be found by defeating two particular types of foe...

That's a whole lot of combinations to play with, and we've no doubt you'll find some crazy combinations with some experimentation! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

(And yes, you can add more than one "Multishot" Sigil to a single spell.)

Salvage Station

We heard you loud and clear, no feature was more highly requested than the ability to Salvage items. Here's the Salvage Station!

At long last, you can clear your chests from unwanted hats or weaker items, and actually get something in return for it. No more throwing items into the ocean to get rid of them.

Several items can now be brought to this station to be recycled into new materials. Salvageable items have a special tag on their tool-tip, so keep an eye out for it. Certain recipes, such as Scrappy, or Upgrading Weapons and Spell Gems will require materials only found via Salvaging.

The rarity of an item makes a difference when salvaging, and the exact rewards can be unpredictable.

Luminary Changes

With new crafting stations to unlock, and changes to weapon crafting, we took a pass at redesigning parts of the Luminary tree. The Weapon Enhancement Table and Salvage Station have been added as optional unlocks in a new fashion, giving players more choice as you move through the Luminaries.

Gone are the old Weapon unlocks, replaced with new Weapons with three important characteristics:

  1. They can be upgraded at a Weapon Enhancement Table
  2. Superior & Master weapons are crafted with a randomized Rarity, which come with a variety of possible stat rolls.
  3. They cannot be used until you put a Spell Gem inside of them

What about my Luminary Points?

When you load in to a world after the Dormant Powers update, any Luminaries which you've previously unlocked that have now been removed, will be refunded. Meaning you'll be able to spend those points on something different.

We've also added a few new Luminaries that help to spice things up further, see if you can find them :)

Familiar Command Wheel

Tired of your low-level Familiar running bravely into danger only to instantly collapse to a barrage of Froblin arrows? Or perhaps you'd rather stand back and watch as your Traxio burns through any nearby creatures?

The Familiar Command Wheel gives you control over your Familiar's behaviour.

Defensive

Your Familiar will fight back against any foe who attacks you or them first. (This is the default behaviour)

Aggressive

Your Familiar will attack any nearby creatures, regardless of whether they're hostile or not.

Passive

Your Familiar won't attack at all.

We've also added quick commands to Switch between Familiars, or tell them to Come Here or Wait There. Generally this gives you a ton more control of how your Familiar acts during your adventure.

Emotes & Petting

Your player character can now perform 9 different Emotes! Holding R opens this menu.

Clapping: Clap your hands!

Laughing: Hahah!

Angry: Hnnngh!

"Follow me!": Let your party know it's time to catch up!

Joke: Say something funny!

Point: Point your finger wherever you're looking!

Reflect: Comment on your surroundings!

Sad: :(

Pet: Pets a nearby familiar, and they may even pet you back!

Improved Character Screen

We've introduced a new menu where you can easily get an overview of your stats and equipment. You can also easily swap between gear by selecting a specific slot:

Trial of Al'uun

A high level Dungeon located in a secret location. We've significantly increased this challenge by introducing several new foes at even higher levels than before. The new recommended level is 40. Good luck!

Fixes & Improvements

  • Fixed an issue where enemies could desync between Host and Clients
  • Fixed an issue where moving close to an interactable object could stop player movement
  • Fixed an issue where certain dungeons were not repeatable
  • Fixed an issue where Lety would sometimes run backwards instead of forwards
  • Significantly increased respawn rate of most enemies across the world
  • Enhanced Tomes now default to level 40 rather than the current player level
  • Spellblades Damage Changes: We were generally finding that Wands were better than Spellblades in nearly every way. We've made some changes which generally improve the power level of Spellblades, while still aiming to keep a risk/reward gameplay with them.
  • New Luminary: Vanguard
  • New Luminary: Magickal Attunement
  • Removed 12 Luminaries
  • Increased Attack Speed amount from Hasty from 5 -> 10%
  • Increased Leech amount from Sanguine by 30%
  • Increased Health granted from Luminaries by 15 / 20
  • Reduced Health granted from levelling up from 10 -> 5
  • Increased Spirit Dust drops by roughly 50%
  • Changed the stock of several shops

Can I continue on my existing save file?

Yes! Though, given that Dormant Powers fundamentally changes how weapon crafting and other parts of progression work, we would recommend starting a new world to get the most out of the update.

Should you choose to play on an existing world, please be aware that any pre-existing weapons unfortunately will not work with the new Weapon Enhancement Table - You'll need to find or craft new weapons to experiment with spell gems, upgrading and sigils.

Pre-existing Items may also not be salvageable work in the Salvage Station.

Thank you for playing! As always, please report any feedback or issues you discover below:
