3 Months in Early Access! Thank You, Special Discount & Development Update
It’s already been just over 3 months since Devil of the Plague entered Early Access , and honestly, it’s been a pretty crazy journey for our small team.
In these first months, we’ve passed 20,000+ units , reached 53,000+ wishlists , and players from 50+ countries have joined the plague.
For a small indie team like ours, seeing numbers like these means a lot. Every purchase, review, bug report, Discord message and piece of feedback has helped us keep building the game.
So, to celebrate our first three months together, we’re starting a special two week discount for Devil of the Plague.
At the same time, we also want to be open with you about what’s currently happening behind the scenes because while there won’t be a new content update alongside this sale, we’re currently working on one of the biggest technical changes we’ve made to the game so far.
No new update this month and here’s why
Over the past weeks, most of our development time has been focused on a major technical change behind the scenes.
These changes are extremely important for many of the things we want to bring to the game over the next 2–3 months, including:
The Occult Board Cryptex puzzles The new Lobby System New gameplay mechanics and interactions New content and systems for our upcoming major updates Better long-term performance, stability and scalability
The good news is that this transition is now close to being completed.
But there is also a downside to doing such a large change.
Some bugs and smaller issues that currently exist are connected to systems that are already being replaced. Fixing those issues in the old systems now would mean spending time rebuilding something that will be replaced again shortly afterwards.
Because of that, we have intentionally decided to leave some of these issues temporarily unresolved and fix them properly within the new system instead.
As a small team, we have to be careful about where we spend our development time. Interrupting this transition for temporary fixes would ultimately slow down the larger updates we’re working toward.
Our priority right now is to finish the foundation first, so we can move forward much faster afterwards.
Multiplayer Customization
One of the most visible issues right now is related to purchases and customization inside the Multiplayer lobby .
For now, there is a workaround:
Cosmetics purchased and equipped through Single Player can also be used in Multiplayer.
However, purchasing or changing certain customization options directly through the Multiplayer lobby may still cause problems.
We know where the issue comes from, and the solution itself is not especially complicated. The problem is that this system is directly involved in the architecture we are currently replacing.
Instead of temporarily patching it and rebuilding the same thing again shortly afterwards, we’re going to solve it properly as part of the new foundation.
PlayStation, Xbox & GeForce NOW
There is also some very good news happening outside of the current PC development.
Our processes with PlayStation, Xbox and GeForce NOW are all moving forward , and we have received the approvals needed to continue the process with all three.
There is still work to do before we can announce exact dates, so we don’t want to promise anything too early.
Our current goal is to have all three processes completed before the end of the year , and we are hoping that two of them may even be ready around our Major late October Update .
That is our target, not a confirmed release date, but things are moving in the right direction.
What happens next?
Because most of our development effort is currently going into this technical transition and the larger systems being built on top of it, the next few weeks will be relatively quiet in terms of smaller updates while we focus on finishing this foundation.
We wanted to tell you this now instead of disappearing for a few weeks and leaving everyone wondering what’s happening.
There may not be a big patch this week, but development absolutely hasn’t slowed down.
It’s actually the opposite.
A lot of work is happening underneath the game right now so that systems like the Occult Board, Cryptex puzzles, Lobby System, new gameplay elements and our larger upcoming content can be built on a much better foundation.
Once this transition is finished, we’ll be able to shift our focus back toward visible content, fixes and the larger updates we’ve been preparing.
We’re a small team, so sometimes the best decision for the game means spending a few weeks working on things that aren’t immediately visible to players.
Thank you for sticking with us, sending feedback, reporting bugs, leaving reviews and continuing to support Devil of the Plague.
The first three months were only the beginning.
See you in the plague.
