Gunnheim: Remastered

Ten years later, we are back!

Bring your friends. Bring your couch. Start mayhem!

Gunnheim was always meant to be played together, so co-op got the most love.

  • Up to four Players online, on the same couch, or both at once: two on the sofa and two across the world. Grab a spare controller and jump in, even in the middle of a fight.
  • Steam Remote Play Together works too.
  • Friends can drop in at any time and can join the mayhem straight away! If your connection drops, you come back with everything you had.
  • Play with mouse and keyboard or smash the controller, its up to you!
  • The horde grows with your party, more friends, more mayhem!

The Zerker

  • Rage builds from the damage you deal and the damage you take, so you'll get to use it far more often. It bursts out in a shockwave, makes you faster, and every kill keeps it burning.
  • Undying Rage: hit zero health with Rage ready and you don't go down. You just get angrier.
  • Your Warcry throws enemies back and pulls fallen friends straight back onto their feet.
  • Dash away when overwhelmed
  • Going down isn't the end. Keep shooting, and hold on until your friends reach you. Playing alone? Get a kill while you're down and you're back up!

Every run is different

  • After each level you pick one boon out of three: Ricochet Rounds, Bloodlust, Twin Step, Guardian Angel, Bigger Booms and many more. Pick the same boon again and it gets stronger. Every run builds a different Zerker.
  • Levels vary the enemy packs they throw at you

Guns. Lots of guns.

  • Wolfsmiter now reaches across the screen
  • All 21 pickup weapons are back, rebalanced into Common, Rare and Epic. Every one of them has brand-new effects.
  • Loot boxes show their rarity before you crack them open. Every level hides guaranteed caches, and the game makes sure you never go too long without a new toy.

The road to Odin

  • All 31 levels across Forest of Hayr, Turkuld, Masons Grief and Grizzly Caves are rebuilt around real fights. The enemy packs change from run to run.
  • Tough, but fair. Every big hit is announced: the ground lights up before a slam lands, ranged enemies show you where they're aiming.

Pick your pain

  • Choose from Easy, Normal, Hard and Hardcore.
  • Beat Odin once and Hardcore opens up: there are no retries, and failing a level ends the run.
  • On every difficulty, enemy attacks stay just as readable. Harder means more enemies and heavier hits.

Achievements

  • All 11 original achievements can be earned, and the ones you already have are yours to keep.
  • You can now earn the region achievements and Odin Slayer on any difficulty, so "I have fallen in love with these holes" no longer demands Hardcore. Only "Odin's unholy intervention" still does.
  • The four hidden totems are back too. I'm not telling you where.

A hundred small things

  • A crosshair with hit and kill markers, gamepad aim assist, rumble, and hits that land with real weight
  • Full controller support in every menu, Steam Deck included
  • Remappable controls, a camera shake slider and optional damage numbers
  • Scenery fades away when it would hide you, and arrows point to friends who are off screen
  • Every player has their own colour
  • A short tutorial to get you going
  • Borderless full screen at your display's native resolution
  • A RECORDS screen with your achievements, your lifetime stats and every weapon you've found
  • Friends can see on Steam where you are in your run
  • And lots of more!

Before you jump in

  • Progress from the old version doesn't carry over. Your achievements stay, but the regions have to be unlocked again. Think of it as an excuse to play it all from the start.
  • The remastered game is on Windows and Linux / SteamOS.
  • If you'd like to play the old version for old times' sake, it's on the original branch: right-click Gunnheim, then go to Properties, then Betas.

For now, the Zerker is the only playable character. Tell me what you love, what you hate and what breaks, and post it in the discussions. Thank you for sticking around, or for coming back. And huge thank you to the original Gunnheim team, whose love and work is in every level of this update. Odin is waiting.
