Since 1935, Monopoly has been widely enjoyed by families and friends, becoming a staple household board game for generations. In 1990, Monopoly Junior was created, to introduce tabletop fun to younger audiences, marking many children’s first board game experiences. Now, Hasbro Games Junior Collection creates a new digital world where families can experience the nostalgia and fun of Monopoly Junior with even more chaos and colour, bringing another dimension to family games night.

In a game where one roll can turn the game around, Monopoly Junior encourages players aged 8+ to discover their gaming persona: are you the cash collector, aiming to win by collecting properties and money, or will you take a chance in rolling the dice and playing your cards?

Strategy is key to Monopoly in every form. Players aim to collect as many properties as possible, taking cash as others land on their squares, and turn the game around by picking up chance cards and going head to head in the dice roll. The Cash Collector can drive economic progression within the game, collecting properties and rent from other players, while The Lucky Challenger is less predictable, and can change the game with one card. Whatever your player type is, avoiding setbacks like time out or bankruptcy is key to staying in the game.

Unlike its real world counterpart, in Hasbro Games Junior Collection’s Monopoly Junior players can manipulate the dice throughout the game. Spin to throw the dice back up into the air, push it away from fellow players, and jump to toss again. Every player takes part in each dice toss, adding another layer of friendly competition to the game.

Once the timer is up and the dice has landed, the icon of the player whose turn it is will hop the determined amount of spaces on the board. With each go, players can land on and collect identifiable properties, including the library, the beach, the vet, the zoo and more. As each location is collected, the board comes to life as a dynamic three-dimensional map blooming with colour.

Deciding the kind of player you want to be begins even before you’ve clicked ‘A’ to enter the game. Players can customise their avatars with a variety of options to create mini versions of themselves or go wild and create a new goofy character. From picking a groovy new hairstyle, accessorising to the max, and mixing and matching style, players across generations can make this game their own from the start.

Once players have entered the game, a mini-game dash to pick their favourite icon introduces one of the most well-loved aspects of the game. Rush to choose from Toy Ducky, Little Scottie the dog and more, just as you would in the tabletop version of the game. For us, this feature is key to creating worlds beyond gameplay, recreating some of Monopoly’s iconic features on-screen.
