Squad update: teams of four, a new city and barricade shields
The biggest update before launch is live. Restart Steam if the start screen shows UPDATE instead of PLAY: the game and the match servers changed together.
Squads of four
- SQUAD replaces Duo: invite up to three friends from the start screen and queue together.
- A smaller party, or a player alone who picks SQUAD, is filled up to four: first with other players, then with bots, so nobody waits for a full lobby.
- Karga Kargo for squads: carry the dog tags of every fallen teammate and send them all from one crow post box.
- Bots pace their fights by team, so matches with teams of four keep a good pace.
A new city
- The city is now an island: beaches, shallows and open sea, and the drop helicopter breaks out of the clouds over the water.
- New landmarks to drop on: a cross-shaped church, a stone windmill, a lighthouse, a gas station, coast bays and an airfield.
- Houses, vehicles, street lamps and street furniture redrawn to the same top-down style and scale; tidier fields, fences and camps, and more cover in the open lots.
- Doors look like doors: a leaf in a frame that swings open, an empty frame once it's broken.
Barricade shields
- One press drops a person-sized barricade with full cover wherever you stand. Line several up into a wall; they take damage and break.
A living city
- The sun moves through the match and casts real shadows; lightning lights up the street for a moment.
- Rain soaks everything: wet ground, puddles with raindrop rings, splashing steps, soaked clothes and muddy footprints.
- Muzzle flashes and fires light their surroundings, ruins smoulder, crows land on the fallen, and a siren marks the final circle.
- Street lamps can be shot out.
Changes
- The knife is gone: the axe is the melee weapon (now carried head up).
- Bushes no longer hide players or bots; they still shake and rustle when someone pushes through.
- Footprints are boot prints, footsteps stand out over rain and crows, and the wind is quieter.
Fixes
- Explosive barrels can be hit anywhere on the drawn drum.
- The start screen fits a party of four.
Last Evac launches in Early Access on October 30 . Found a bug? The FEEDBACK button on the start screen leads to the forum and to your log folder.
