Phasewright is out: build machines out of light
Light is fast. But not arbitrarily fast.
A pulse crosses one cell per tick, the longer way arrives later. That's the whole rule. And from it you build machines that actually run: lay conduits, split colours, hit the beat. From today it's the complete game – and it's free.
More in here than in the demo
- All twelve chapters – more than 150 orders, from your first wire to the masterpieces. Every new part explains itself right where you need it.
- The Workshop – build your own orders, your own parts, whole chapters, with the same editor the game was built with. Share them with a code or on the Steam Workshop, and play what others have built.
- Three new ways to play online – ghost races, building blind (one of you builds in the dark, the other talks them through it) and duels over a level of your own. Plus races for up to four now, with chat and voice chat.
- New modes beside the campaign – today's order, order of the week, repairs, prediction, on account and the part duel. Free play has no limit any more and goes all the way up to "Impossible".
- Leaderboards, achievements, music, points shop – the shop sells looks and sounds only, never skill.
The Workshop editor: build whatever you like
The very editor the game was built with – now in your hands. Start from a template, take a finished order onto your bench and adapt it, or draw a bay from scratch. Then you solve it yourself, and only then share it with a code or publish it straight to the Steam Workshop. Your own parts and whole packs of orders are in there too.
Adapt an order – a finished order lands on your bench and you change whatever you like.
Bay and parts – you pick the emitters, the obstacles and the parts the player gets.
Sign-off – you build the solution yourself and watch it run.
Every mode at a glance
On account
The same orders, but with one budget per chapter. Building cheap finally pays.
Today's order and order of the week
One board for everyone: today until midnight, this week until Sunday. The leaderboard shows who built it better.
Free play
Pick a difficulty and the game keeps the orders coming. Finish five in a row and you climb a rung, all the way up to "Impossible".
Repairs
The machine is already there, but somewhere a fault is hiding. Find it and get it running.
Prediction
Read, don't build: a finished machine, one question – in which tick does the first pulse arrive? Then the simulation shows the truth.
Part duel
One order, two candidate parts. You build with one, then the other takes on the same order.
Online for four
The shelf: race, ghost race, building blind and the duel over a level – whatever fits the people at the table. Plus chat and voice chat.
Awards and points shop
Awards for everything you pull off, and a shop that sells looks and sounds only – skill isn't for sale.
Three numbers that argue with each other
Ticks, cost and footprint stand above every machine. The fast answer is rarely the small one, and the cheap one almost never the fastest. How far will you push it?
No catch. Really.
No price, no purchases inside, no ads. German and English. Mouse, keyboard or controller – every screen works with all of them.
Played the demo?
Your "First Shift" badge and your demo titles carry over by themselves on the same PC. Your save doesn't – you rebuild the first chapters, with everything that's been added since.
Tell us what you think
A bug, a wish, a spot where you got stuck? Please let us know, quickest right in the game: bottom right, click the warning sign and pick "Report a problem" or "Give feedback". We read all of it, even the small stuff.
Have fun building!
