Sacred 2 Remaster

More About Modding Support

SparklingBit

We know how much modding can add to a game.

We want to make it easier for the community to explore, experiment, and make Sacred 2 Remaster their own, and would like to provide some details on what that looks like.

A significant amount of the games data can be edited and modified:

  • many unencrypted data files, that can be edited to modify and change the game and are imported into game when starting the game
  • many resources such as graphics, surfaces, models and animations can be changed and added, as their references, and internal IDs and their use cases are editable in the unencrypted data files
  • languages and localization texts can be edited by decoding and encoding the global.res localization file by using tools already used by the modding community

To make these moddable parts of the game easier to understand, we are currently in the process of creating documentation of:

  • which files of the game are moddable
  • what do these files actually do
  • how can you use the specific files to modify the game
  • what values and options are available and can be set when modifying the files

Partial documentation for some of the files already exist and can be found on Sacred's modding forum: https://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/files/ -> Sacred 2 Remaster Documentation

If you have any questions about the existing documentation, feel free to ask in the forum, and we will try to provide additional information.

Once full documentation exists, we will add a full ModdingKit as downloadable bonus content to the game on Steam.

We’re looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with, and we hope these resources will make modding easier for everyone in the future.
