Tutorial and Death Stars
ShootyCraft 0.229 adds a new first-flight tutorial, Security Cameras, and the Death Ray. Here are the changes since 0.216.
New Features
- Added a first-flight tutorial covering movement, mining, automated production, base defenses, and relic recovery. Progress saves automatically so you can continue later.
- Added a Tutorial portal to the Hub. New players enter training automatically, with a skip portal for anyone who wants to jump straight into the game.
- Added Security Cameras. Receive alerts about nearby enemies and destroyed structures, and check your base remotely using the CAMS button or N.
- Added the Death Ray: a powerful, flux-fueled beam that cuts through terrain and structures. Requires substantial power and damages friendly ships too.
- Larger buildings now take time to construct. Stay nearby to build them with your ship's tractor beam; multiple teammates can work together to finish faster.
Balance
- Increased standard and rapid-fire blaster firing rates, including the Bomber's blaster.
- Reduced mining time for terrain from 10 seconds to 5 seconds per tile.
- Mining beams can now dismantle exposed machinery, releasing its stored contents. Machinery takes 10 seconds to dismantle.
Bots
- Bots can use mining beams to raid exposed enemy machinery.
- Smaller groups of bots can launch raids and look for openings without waiting for bombs.
- Bots now deal with nearby defenders before mining enemy structures.
- Improved raid preparation so bots retain supplies needed for an attack.
- Improved bots' ability to escape enclosed terrain pockets.
Hub
- Simplified the Hub around Play, Tutorial, Hangar, and region selection. Arena, Solo/Co-op, Adventure, and private/friend portals are temporarily hidden.
- Extended the Hub map reset interval to six hours of occupied time.
- Returning to the race's start ring now cancels your current run.
- Departure messages now distinguish players joining a game from players leaving the Hub.
- Added a Retry dialog when the local Hub connection fails.
Misc
- Added storage-full warnings when a chest network cannot accept more resources.
- Active Death Ray beams now appear on the minimap.
- Right-click or the controller's erase button now cancels a selected building before removing structures.
- Reduced rendering overhead in the Hub, minimap, resource display, and weapon bar.
Fixes
- Fixed other players' ships becoming invisible after a Hub map reset.
- Fixed reconnects being rejected while the previous connection was still closing.
- Fixed movement getting stuck after using the Steam overlay or changing lobbies.
- Fixed held mouse actions stopping when the pointer crossed HUD controls.
- Fixed a loadout issue where carrying a Pinger could prevent newly equipped weapons from working.
- Fixed the Death Ray beam disappearing when its emitter moved off screen.
- Fixed portal charge audio repeating and hidden portals still playing music.
- Fixed a macOS signing issue affecting Steam builds.
