DLC Packs to be Free for early access players

After a lot of internal discussion, we’ve made a decision: every player who buys The City during Early Access will get all of its DLC packs free.

Our first priority is a stable, working base game. But we also have a lot of DLC planned that will massively expand the gameplay. That left us with a choice: hold the game back until all of it fits into the base game, or get the base game into Early Access now and give the extra content away. We chose the second.

The base game already brings features that are new to the city-builder genre: real policing, individual credit reports, and a city built entirely on cause and effect. Everything you do has consequences. Raise taxes too high and people lose their homes. To stay warm, they start fires, and a house burns down. Now the people of your city start to turn on their mayor. That’s where politics comes in.

We want The City in your hands sooner rather than later, so the politics system will arrive as a DLC. We don’t think you should have to pay for it. So, to say it plainly: every DLC will be free for anyone who buys the game during Early Access.
