Royal Outfitter & Tower Defenses — Now in the Playtest
Hi everyone,
The Royal Outfitter and new roadside tower defenses are now available in March Out! Playtest 2.7.29. This update gives you something lasting to bring home from a battle, and more choices about how to defend the road to your castle.
Update the separate March Out! Playtest installation to try them. Everyone in a multiplayer group should be on the same current version.
Visit the Royal Outfitter
Look for the Royal Outfitter booth beside the fireplace in the castle Hall . Walk up and press E to browse. The decorated counter, equipment displays and house-colored canopy give the shop a proper home inside your castle.
The Outfitter uses Royal Marks , an earned currency kept between battles. Earn Marks through meaningful participation in completed battles and sieges, co-op milestones, your first completed campaign and major Hall achievement awards. A hard-fought defeat can still earn a reward when you contributed.
Your battle spoils now get their own presentation, with coin sounds, effects and a clear total added to your purse.
Spend those Marks on cosmetic equipment and decorations, including:
- Armor, helmets, cloaks, shields and weapon appearances, with more ornate finishes to work toward.
- Horse coats, tack and heraldic cloth.
- Carpets, war tables, trophy bases, fireplaces and grander Hall doors.
- A portrait of your commander, gardens and a more impressive stable.
- Heraldic details, salutes and touches for your royal correspondence.
These purchases change your appearance, not your combat stats. Royal Marks are earned through play and cannot be bought with real money. They are separate from the gold you recruit and build with during a battle.
Choose how to defend the road
New marked foundations let you choose where to invest in a roadside defense. Towers are available in campaign, Castle War and Co-op Last Stand .
There are three foundation positions per kingdom and room for two active or planned towers . Co-op players share the castle's sites and tower limit, so coordinate your choices.
The three defense models, shown together for a closer look.
- Arrow Watch — 200 battle gold. Arrow fire covers the approach, but shielded Bulwarks can absorb much of its damage.
- Bolt Bastion — 240 battle gold. A ballista position with a vulnerable crew. Marksmen are especially dangerous to it.
- Stone Battery — 280 battle gold. Explosive stone impacts punish groups at range. It cannot fire inside its minimum range, giving fast-closing Vanguard a way to reach it.
Foundations are now page four
Use A/D or the page arrows in the normal recruit and kingdom management panel to reach Defend the road · 04/04 . Choose a foundation, inspect the designs, then plan or build your defense. You can manage repairs and reinforcement there too.
While leading your commander, press Tab and use the Foundations entry. You no longer need to hunt for F8.
Investments worth defending
Gold spent on a tower is gold you cannot spend on reinforcements. Towers support your army, and still need that army to protect them.
A tower built during battle starts vulnerable and cannot shoot until construction finishes. Enemy pressure interrupts construction and repairs. If a tower is destroyed, its foundation has a 60-second rebuilding cooldown , and replacing it costs the full price. Clearing the threat matters; repeatedly clicking Build will not create an endless disposable wall.
This update also fixes troops gathering around foundations without being able to attack them, and the cursor remaining visible after closing the foundation controls. Stone Battery explosions have their impact effects and lethal ragdoll reactions, with knockback reactions on lethal bolt and arrow hits too.
Help shape these additions
Both systems are being tried in the Playtest, and their balance can still change. Tell me which items you want to earn, whether the reward pace feels right, and which tower placements help or feel too strong. For tower feedback, the mode, era and attacking troop types are especially useful.
Thank you for helping me keep improving March Out!
