Stick it to the Stickman 1.0 is Out Now

Free Lives

Beloved consumers,

Let's drop the corporate jargon funny business on this one. It's a big day, and there’s a lot to say.

It's been a wild ride, and thank you for joining us on it. Whether you've been a community playtester, posted a meme in the Discord, left a review about framerate issues, or been absolutely silent as you've gleefully kicked your boss in the balls. This silly little stickman game has meant a lot to us, and we hope it's meant a lot (or at least that it’s meant something) to you.

Five years, eight months, and two days ago, the "Boss-fighter" Github repository was birthed into this world and received its first commit. The plan was simple, a Stickman game where you beat up your coworker and press Z to attack. The plan was to make it less complicated than all our other ideas… but that plan changed when over a million people played the prototype.

A lot of life has happened in the two thousand and seventy one days since 21st of January 2021. Stick it to the Stickman has seen many people join and leave Free Lives. It has seen children born, it has seen parents die, marriages and heart attacks. Stick it to the Stickman has been at the launch parties of several other (more responsibly scoped) Free Lives titles. Stick it to the Stickman is now old enough to work in the mines. Stick it to the Stickman is nearly old enough to get drunk and buy a gun.

And today, Stick it to the Stickman launches into 1.0

Five years, eight months, and two days is a long time to wake up every morning and “Get Back To Work” on the same project. We did our best to do the game justice, and to make something that players would love, but we found we couldn’t finish everything we started. Game modes we teased, like the Marketing Department, the Robot Takeover of Fulfilment, the Science Center and Employee Evaluation Trials would have taken another year (or more) to finish, and it’s time for this team to move on.

This near-final update includes a hefty chunk of new gameplay. It includes the game’s ultimate boss fight, at the bottom of a billionaire’s bunker, and it also includes the Neurolink gamemode which, if you haven’t played, is going to blow your mind.

Thanks for playing, and inspiring us to build something grand. This has become, quite likely, the most elaborate stickman game ever built. We could go on about how much fun we've had (or how many tears we've shed) throughout these years of development, but we'll save that for another post. Mostly because we need to have this localised by tomorrow, but also because we're very tired.

But there are some things you can expect in the coming weeks:

A big optimisation pass Bug fixes Steam Trading Cards and other community items Minor polish

Anyways, we've gotta get back to work. Goodbye for now!
