Dev Blog: The Cultist Approaches
Dark greetings, everyone!
Recently, you guys voted for the Cultist to be Walk of Life's next role in our community vote on our Discord. We've teased you all a little bit with a look at the Cultist's roommate, the cosmic horror, but now we're finally ready to show you a sneak peek of the role itself. How exciting!
As the Cultist, players will have to do the bidding of the cosmic horror who sits at home, brewing their abyssal schemes. Upon entering their home, the Cultist will be able to see what the horror demands of them that day. There are three types of biddings that need doing: indoctrinating townsfolk, performing rituals, and feeding the horror.
Indoctrination is a means of spreading the good (bad?) word of the horror and convincing the townsfolk, rather forcefully, about its dark excellence. This is as simple as travelling to a location and clicking a button.
When performing a ritual, a quest begins where the cultist must travel around town doing cryptic cultisty stuff such as chanting, casting curses, and picking up a box of plagues to drop off at another destination.
Finally, the horror hungers for worldy possessions, and will occasionally ask the Cultist to feed it specific furniture. Talk about specific cravings!
Completed biddings are indicated by the creepy little candelabra by your bag. When three biddings have been completed, the horror will reward the Cultist with a boon!
Boons are very powerful items unavailable to other roles. As they require a lot of hassle to get, they are suitably powerful. Take for instance the infernal lottery ticket, which grants a guarantee of winning the lottery! Or the abyssal voucher, which can be used to redeem any item from the pawn store, free of charge! There's even a CV with a reference from the horror itself, which can be redeemed for an entire level of work XP!
The boons may be powerful, but so is the wrath of the horror if you fail to do its bidding!
Yikes! Better not fall behind on your dark chores!
That's it for now! Are you excited to play the Cultist? Let us know!
