ModBlog #1: Modding is Coming!

Salutations!

When Walk of Life graduated from Steam Early Access to Full Release, the one thing we couldn't tick off our Early Access roadmap was the promise of modding for the game. Mod support was something that we've wanted to do ever since No Time to Relax came out, but the game's code was just too messy for it to be feasible.

That's why mod support has been a fundamental part of our vision for Walk of Life since we decided to make the game, and the structure of the game has been architectured with that in mind. With sweat on our brow, and a strange rash on our back, we can finally say that modding is making its way to you, our community, very soon! So what exactly can you expect?

Woolset

The Woolset is an accessible ingame toolset which can be used to make changes to Walk of Life. This is actually something that the team uses to create various stuff in the game, so it's somewhat tried and tested. Depending on the scope of your mod's vision, this might be the only thing you need.

As you enter the Woolset, you will be prompted to either create a new mod or select an existing one, and from there you can make your desired changes. After you make your changes, you can then save the mod and even publish it and upload it to the Workshop.

Let's take a look at the Woolset in action by making a mod that adds a cooldown to the fries at Clucker's.

Wow, how easy to use and accessible! Let's try something else! How about adding the pizza from the Arcade to the menu at Clucker's?

Now these were obviously very simple mods, but the Woolset has a ton of potential when it comes to basic modding. If you want to create new traits, global events, choice events, etc. the Woolset will serve you nicely.

To help the community get into the swing of things with the Woolset, we will also be releasing a modding guide to explain the basics of the toolset. There, we will also go into how to make other mods that might require tools that go beyond the capabilities of the Woolset.
